Alan Stuart Franken (born May 21, 1951), known as Al Franken, is an Emmy Award-winning American comedian, writer, liberal political commentator, and politician. He is a Minnesota candidate for the United States Senate in 2008. He gained fame as a writer and a performer for Saturday Night Live, eventually writing and appearing in several films.
