  Why does "clerical abuse" seem to focused on "sexual abuse?" The root of the problem is a base assumption in the Catholic Church that a pastor "can never make a mistake in ANY decision or action!" At least that he can never admit he erred as it might undermine his "pastoral authority" to be seen a capable of making an error! Sounds rather like this practice can created some horrific (and unjust) actions with no consequences to the pastor who actions are in question. This is NOT just a sexual problem. It also could explain the continuing decline of the Catholic Church. NO organisation ran by mortal men and modeled on a feudal governing pattern from a couple of thousand years ago is EVER going to survive the modern world! How manay ABSOLUTE monarchas are left in the world? If ther are any left how modern are their countries?
  One reason this can not survive is people are educated MUCH better in general than the ignorant peasants of the time the Catholic hierarchy comes from. I would agree that God does not change but there is more than ample recorded evidence thru Church history proving the hierarchy is really NO different than any other organization having it's share of incompetents and scoundrels! And it is VERY obvious that no matter what has been done and what proof there is the hierarchy very quickly raises the drawbridges!!
  A very fitting motto should be "WE PROTECT OUR OWN!" And the first step to covering up is DENY, DENY, DENY. more »
