Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
Did he strike it rich?

Mrs. Jones:
Listen, he's dug more holes than a gopher and all he ever got out of 'em was a backache.

[a schoolteacher greets Kit and El Toro while holding a rifle]

El Toro:
Is that what you use for a pointer?

Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
When we met Chrissy, she was on her way to Sacramento to see the governor.

Mercy McBride:
Guess she got that idea from me. I was going to go, but I was afraid to leave here. You see, anywhere else possession is nine points of the law. In this town, it's the whole ten points.

El Toro:
Do you think she is loco?

Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
What's crazy about doing something for the children of the country?

Ty Bickson:
This doesn't concern anybody except us here in Melody Flats. If Carson sticks his nose in, I'll twist it for him!

Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
I hear you're having trouble with the schoolteacher.

Ty Bickson:
This trouble you talk of is none of your business, stranger, but since you've asked, I'll tell you about it. When the diggin's around Melody Flats dried out, most of the miners left but a few of us stuck around. Now we've found gold up on the hill under the schoolhouse. That crazy schoolmarm drives all the men away with a rifle.

Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
Doe she own the property?

Ty Bickson:
I run this town and I ssy that property belongs to everybody!

Ty Bickson:
Now you take my advice and get out of town while you're still healthy. None of this is any of your business.

Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
I'm going to make it my business!

[El Toro tries to join Red's gang by convincing Red's girlfriend he is a dangerous bandito]

Lola La Vada:
Perhaps you're one of my countryman whose picture hangs on sheriffs' offices throughout the country?

El Toro:
My friends told me that you were discrete - that you could be trusted!

Lola La Vada:
Who are those friends and who are you? What is your name? Nobody was ever christened "El Toro."

El Toro:
My friends are right - you are to be trusted.

Lola La Vada:
At least with your name.

Tom Phillips:
This is going to be a race against time. If we can get a paper into the hands of the miners by morning, I'm sure we'll win.

Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
And if we don't?

Tom Phillips:
I'm very much afraid none of us will live to see another sundown.

[El Toro cuts the fuse to a bomb seconds before it would have exploded]

El Toro:
Does anybody want it?

El Toro:
There was only one man in there. His name was Lowery.

Red Barrows:
Why didn't you kill him?

El Toro:
I was hired to kill Carson and Phillips. Do you want me to kill three men for the price of two?

[last lines]

Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
Where are you going?

El Toro:
To escort Senorita Lola La Vala to Red Barrows - in jail.

Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
Wait for me. I'd like to meet her... once. Goodbye, Tom.

Tom Phillips:
Goodbye, boys.

Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
You wait here, Toro.

El Toro:
Oh, Kit, let me go with you. I know this Judge Trumbull. He's a brave and honorable man. We are simpatico.

Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
He's the best, but his message said he wanted to see me alone.

El Toro:
Are we not compadres? Where you go, I go. Besides I'm nobody. I'll be the little man who isn't there.

Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
You're so right. You won't be there 'cause you'll be here!

[Because Kit ordered Toro to remain behind, Toro can not testify to Kit's whereabouts when the Judge was murdered]

El Toro:
I knew you should not leave me behind. Now I really am the man who was not there.

Matt the Sheriff:
Are you asking me to release you, Kit? Why with the feeling against you now, I'd be the honored guest at a lynching bee and they'd run me out of office to boot!

El Toro:
Kit, I don't like it here. I fell like eyes are crawling over me like little bugs.

El Toro:
Kit, are you sure we're the bait, or are we the ones that are walking into the trap?

Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
Keep your wits about you and stay out of trouble.

El Toro:
Trouble? How could I get into any more trouble than we have already?

Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
You know what I mean - senoritas!

El Toro:
But it is my stomach that is hungry, Kit, not my heart.

Maria:
So you deceiver! El Toro, the bull - that is a good name for you!

[last lines]

Christopher 'Kit' Carson:
I hope that will teach him a lesson - but I doubt it.

[Spence points his gun at Kit and El Toro]

Henchman Spence:
Now raise your hands.

Kit Carson:
What's the idea?

Henchman Spence:
The idea is we don't like claim jumpers comin' into Indianhead and stealin' other people's silver.

Kit Carson:
Now wait a minute - we're not trying to steal anybody's claim!

Henchman Spence:
There's a sayin': If you hang an innocent man, the rope turns him around clockwise when the wind blows, so if we made a mistake about you two, we'll apologize later.

Henchman Trapp:
Get on your horses.

Kit Carson:
Why? So you can shoot us in the back?

Henchman Morgan:
Whatever gave you that idea. We don't ever shoot our prisoners in the back, do we, Trapp?

Kit Carson:
No, not unless they try to escape. In that case it always looks nicer if all the bullets are in the back.

Henchman Trapp:
Maybe you have a point there, but it just so happens we aren't too particular about where anyone finds the bullets. All those in favor of executing the prisoners where they stand without any further fuss and muss say, "Aye."

Henchman Trapp, Henchman Morgan:
Aye!

Henchman Trapp:
What could be fairer than that?

Marshal Blake:
How are things on the street?

Kit Carson:
Quiet - too quiet.

El Toro:
Pretty soon it'll be too noisy. All the Valenzulas are waiting for us to take away your prisoner.

[the Valenzulas are about to lynch El Toro]

Don Perfidio Valenzuela:
Give his liberty back to El Toro.

El Toro:
I hope I can do the same for you someday, senores!
