Narrator:
The Invaders: alien beings from a dying planet. Their destination: the Earth. Their purpose: to make it *their* world. David Vincent has seen them. For him, it began one lost night on a lonely country road, looking for a shortcut that he never found. It began with a closed deserted diner, and a man too long without sleep to continue his journey. It began with the landing of a craft from another galaxy. Now, David Vincent knows that the Invaders are here, that they have taken human form. Somehow, he must convince a disbelieving world, that the nightmare has already begun...

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] How does a nightmare begin? For David Vincent, architect, returning home from a business trip, it began at a few minutes past four on a lost Tuesday morning, looking for a shortcut that he never found. It began with a welcoming sign that gave hope of black coffee. It began with a closed, deserted diner and a man too long without sleep to continue his journey. In the weeks to come, David Vincent would go back to how it began many times.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] How does a nightmare end? Not here, in the forgotten town of Kinney. Perhaps in Bakersfield. Perhaps in some undiscovered beachhead in another state or another continent. Perhaps for David Vincent, it will never end.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] A physician reports the death of a woman. Two hours later, her husband, a NORAD Major, reports her very much alive. The news accounts attracted no particular attention. But David Vincent knew that an alien, unconscious without pulse or heartbeat, might easily be mistaken for dead, even by a doctor. So he arranged to visit NORAD's Combat Operation's Center, 1,400 feet below Cheyenne Mountain and a natural target for the Invaders.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] The Invader has lost a battle. But David Vincent knows that, somewhere in space, new strategies are already being devised. For the war has only begun.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] Astronomer Eliot Kramer is dead. But as a legacy to seven people, who know our planet is under attack, he has bequeathed a powerful weapon - a computerized program that will at last enable his seven friends to go from defense to attack.

[Epilog Narration] The Army report will be thorough and painstaking. But without proof, its conclusions will be negative. And David Vincent resumes his war against the high command of another army - the army of alien Invaders.

[Opening Narration] David Vincent has received an urgent call from a man he'd never met, to come to a motel he'd never heard of, in a desert he'd never seen. But he came, because the message spoke of alien Invaders. The man he'd never met had disappeared; the motel he'd never heard of seemed menacing; but the desert he'd never seen promised him an answer.

[Epilog Narration] The earth turns on its axis, unaware of the disaster that never happened. And David Vincent goes forward again, very much aware that a far greater disaster can lie ahead - the final disaster, wrought by the Invader.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] A police officer had seen something so terrifying that he had been driven to hysteria - and from hysteria to the thin edge of madness. His incoherent words describing a creature not of this world and a strange, metallic disc bring David Vincent to this Rhode Island city.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] One cup of coffee, a few stolen minutes: a last, small gesture of defiance from a crusader who fought and won the crusade and knows he can never claim a victory.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] Minutes after the violent death of one of Washington's most beloved Senators, David Vincent and Edgar Scoville are hustled into the office of Special Assistant to the Attorney General Andrew M. Hatcher.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] And now, Andrew M. Hatcher joins David Vincent in his struggle against the Invaders. Edgar Scoville will recover from his wounds, and these three will be in the vanguard, leading the fight against the Invaders from space - Invaders who must be stopped.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] A small town doctor has died and his patient has disappeared. But now David Vincent has evidence: x-rays that can prove the presence of alien beings here. Evidence that he can turn over to a government research project at a prominent Illinois university.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] There are millions who doubt; some who suspect; a handful who know. David Vincent seeks to reveal the dark face of the Invader so that, before it is too late, the millions who doubt, will know.

[Opening Narration] The Florida Keys - two astronauts, on pass, marlin fishing. Eight days before the launching of the United States' first moon shot.

Narrator:
[Act One Narration] The nation has been stunned. The first screaming newspaper stories spoke of a fishing accident and the strange, red fog. Two men, slated to walk on the face of the moon, had unaccountably perished. For David Vincent, there was an answer, terrifying in its implications. And so he came to the Florida Keys to find the radio operator who had heard the vacationing astronauts' final words.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] In the far reaches of outer space, the Invader reorganizes his plan for the conquest of the Earth. He's been delayed - but he hasn't been beaten.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] Thirty miles from the geographical center of America, at its very heart, is the town of Grady, population 5,312. Principal industry: farming. Grady, Kansas - the American Gothic: rigid, proud of its tradition, protective of its own, resentful of any threat from the world outside.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] A truck driver's bizarre death only added to the growing panic in a remote corner of West Virginia. Nine had died in a 48-hour period - all frozen. Six hours ago, it became the responsibility of Dr. George Grundy, United States Public Service, to bring the epidemic to an end - to find an answer to deaths which medical authorities found no answer. One man suspects the true nature of the strange and terrifying blight; that its source lies somewhere out in the vast reaches of space. That man: David Vincent.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] Freezing deaths apparently ended and an alien landing site exposed. Grudging victories for David Vincent. But the Invader still walks unheeded on the planet Earth. Somehow, someway, he must be stopped.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] A small, private plane crashes, leaving no trace of its victims. A mail truck is attacked - two security guards killed. A killer disappears in a burst of flame. News items too incredible to be taken seriously - except by one man. David Vincent's only possible conclusion: the killers had been aliens and, for reasons of their own, might even be attending their victim's funeral.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] For David Vincent, every friend is a potential enemy. His enemies understand this. Someday, perhaps, his friends will, too.

[Opening Narration] In the nightmare world in which David Vincent moves, there is seldom reason or logic. And so a hurricane that occurs out of season, that blankets a 600-mile area yet spares a single town - such a storm becomes part of that nightmare world and prompts a phone call to a meteorologist named Gantley and brings Vincent to a fishing town near the Florida Keys.

There are two who do not share the high optimism of the other arrivals here: David Vincent and his ally and friend, Mike Tressider, who step off a helicopter and into a moment of history. They share the grim knowledge that this conference was initiated and is being controlled by alien Invaders.

[Epilog Narration] It is over. A great man's dream lies buried beneath a mountain. The leaders of nations return to their homes. And David Vincent returns to his continuing war to rid the world of the Invader. That is his dream - and he will not see it buried.

And hours later, members of an enemy force began to assemble at an office building in downtown New York - summoned to an urgent summit meeting, another calculated step in their planned annihilation of our civilization.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] Two more to be added to the handful of Believers - a cool young woman and the editor of an important magazine. And they will go on, with David Vincent, watching, waiting, fighting the Invader.

[Opening Narration] Finally, it has happened. A group of people have banded together - Believers who have seen, who know, what David Vincent knows: that alien beings have found their way here and that they must be destroyed. A group of Believers who, by their very nature, become the aliens' chief target for extinction.

[Epilog Narration] There are seven of them now - Believers aware of the presence of alien beings here, determined to destory them. Perhaps for us, it is the end of the beginning. Perhaps for the Invader, it is the beginning of the end.

Roy Thinnes:
This time David Vincent sees an alien ship land in a railroad yard. After it leaves, he sneaks into a train compartment, which is being used by the aliens and takes a mysterious computer tape that could be what he needs most of all: actual proof of the alien invasion. Our guest stars include Ed Begley, a great character actor, and Ed Begley, Jr.'s, dad; and Norman Fell, who was later Mr. Roper on "Three's Company". First aired March 28th, 1967, this episode: "The Betrayed".

Narrator:
Three months ago, David Vincent had come to the Carver oil fields in Houston. There had been reports of unexplained lights and that same night, two watchmen had been found dead. The verdict in both cases: cerebral hemorrhage. Now, suddenly, after endless nights of vigil in the Carver fields, David has found proof that the Invaders are here.

David, if there's anything I can do...

David Vincent:
Thank you. How about taking me to the airport, huh?

Narrator:
A girl's life. For David Vincent, a very personal reason why the war must go on, why the world must be alerted, why the Invader must be destroyed.

Narrator:
[Act One Narration] David Vincent has found proof that the Invaders are here. Minutes after dawn, he seeks out Simon Carver, owner of the enormously successful Carver Oil Company. Now, finally, three months of waiting and watching are about to pay off.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] In a confused and divided world, one thing remains certain: a man must earn his daily bread. And so David Vincent takes advantage of a precious lull in his lonely war.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] A long and lonely war. And yet, the Invader, seeking to take advantage of the differences between nations, have provided David Vincent with an ally half a world away.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] A little girls' story of a truck that melted and disappeared eventually reached the newspapers and the eyes of David Vincent. Aware that such things can happen in the nightmare world of the Invaders, David Vincent has come here to Sands Point, Oregon. And now the nightmare enlarges as the girl describes a man seen running from the ill-fated truck, a man she had recognized as Morgan Tate, head of a nearby communications laboratory.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] Carol Tate had lost her father to a nameless enemy. But the enemy had also suffered a grave blow. They lost Command Roster One. In the days that follow, eleven key aliens had either resigned, disappeared, or died in a tragic accident - their bodies never to be recovered. The Invaders' timetable for conquest had received a major setback.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] For two days, planes have crossed and re-crossed the Utah wilderness, searching for some clue to the fiery object witnesses swore plunged from the sky. But the planes find nothing and the investigation is called off. Only one man continues the search. For somewhere in the forbidding mountains may be the remains of an alien spacecraft.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] David Vincent's war is unrecognized, unheralded. The battlefield can be anywhere - anywhere the Invader has carved out a foothold. David Vincent's war will have no ending until the Invader is driven back to his own world - or until he makes David Vincent's world his own.

[Opening Narration] Plot or paranoia? There was no doubt in David Vincent's mind. A celebrated astrophysicist, Dr. Curtis Lindstrom, had discovered the truth: that alien beings were here on earth. In less than a week, at a meeting of his colleagues, Dr. Lindstrom would announce it to the world. Then perhaps David Vincent could put down his burden. It all seemed so simple.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] For David Vincent, another beachhead destroyed. For the Invaders, evidence that the human race can never be enslaved.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] In a decaying lobster port in Maine, David Vincent searches for a man who has seen the Invaders: a fisherman named Nat Greely, who has taken one of their weapons - a strange, metallic disk. For a day and a half, Vincent has combed the tiny waterfront town but Nat Greely has disappeared.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] A trip to a nightmare world. A committee disbanded. Another defeat, another hope lost for David Vincent - maybe. Or maybe it's a hope begun.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] This is Mr. William Burns, educator, business administrator - here on the planet Earth for less than a year. David Vincent first saw Burns at an alien installation in Miami. Last week, he found him again in Omaha, and followed him here to Cameron, New Mexico, a small town whose peaceful streets shroud the presence of the Invaders.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] An indoctrination center destroyed, where new arrivals on the planet Earth can learn the fine points of human behavior. A day later, David Vincent leaves the town of Cameron, New Mexico, grimly aware that, sometimes, human behavior can seem as alien as creatures from another world.

Male Alien:
[One of the classrooms at Cortland Academy is set up as a nightclub. The dialog is vintage 1967] . Look, if you ask me, we outta drop the Bomb on China, before they drop it on us. I don't know why we're taking all this pushing around.

Female Alien:
You better believe it, baby! These new cops are all power-hungry. We keep playing ball with them and this country's gonna turn into a real police state! Is something wrong, Doctor?

Dr. Reynard:
Much too passionate. Fanatics never influenced anyone. Now, if we are going to poison their minds, sow the seeds of hate and destruction - we must be convincing, sincere. Now you've learned the theory - will you please put it into practice!

Female Alien:
Yes, Doctor.

Alien #1:
I mean, why make such a big scene about LSD or pot? It's groovy! Who are they to tell us how to live?

Dr. Reynard:
Now that is very good!

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] Two men with their eyes on the heavens coming together now in a small southwestern city: David Vincent, who seeks the Invader, and Warren Doneghan, president of JAE - Jet Age Electronics. Two men with their eyes on the heavens - one dedicating his life to an unknown frontier, the other to an undeclared war for survival.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] Two men with their eyes on the heavens who now share a common knowledge. Together they have faced the Invader. Together they have learned the grave threat he represents to the human race. And now, as they again pursue their separate destinies, they remain more than ever, men with their eyes on the heavens.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] A critically wounded officer; a garbled account of glowing, vanishing assailants; a phone call from a physician, who has come to believe in Invaders from space. And David Vincent moves into the center of a widening dragnet.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] For David Vincent and his new ally, a sadness for what they have lost - and hope for what they may have gained. Already, tens of thousands of miles away, an alien saucer speeds through the void on a mission, not of death, but of life.

Here, according to legend, the Virgin appeared to two Indian children and wept, her tears forming the spring known as Las Lagrimas de la Virgen, the stream where, years later, a young girl was presented a gift by a vanishing stranger. A gift that is, in fact, the heart of an awesome new weapon aimed at mankind.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] So David Vincent leaves Lagrimas, New Mexico, with a crystal from an alien planet. He leaves behind two orphans who have met in the desert and who, having lost everything, gained a new life.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] Three weeks since the report of a crash and strange, glowing lights had brought reporters, the Air Force, and David Vincent to the border town of Rosario. Betrayed by his own kind and left to die under a blazing sun, he retains a vision of a ship launched by another kind under another sun. Now, the Air Force and reporters have gone. David Vincent remains to begin the search again.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] For a moment, in the desert south of Rosario, a man and woman came together across a void of space and time. Two people - star-crossed from alien worlds. In the months to come, David Vincent will remember that moment.

[Epilog Narration] Eyewitnesses attesting to the presence of the Invaders. Another piece of the mosaic and soon the pictures that David Vincent sees will be seen by all today. The road ahead seems not quite so steep.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] A surprise encounter in a closed ski lodge. The capture of an alien being whose importance David Vincent cannot know - a leader whose loss jeopardizes the Invaders' foothold on the planet Earth.

[Epilog Narration] David Vincent, given life by his enemies, continues his search. And an old man and a girl will watch the skies and wait.

[Opening Narration] A man has seen a flying saucer - an old and familiar story to David Vincent. But John Carter swears he can predict the day and place when another saucer will land. If true, he could bring to an end Vincent's continuing war against the Invaders.

[Act I Narration] Several hours ago, a radio newscast carried a strange report. A deputy sheriff in Phillipsburg reported an accident in which the passengers vanished in a burst of flame. A police delusion - or evidence of Invaders?

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] The destruction of the alien spores becomes a major victory for David Vincent - a continuing, relentless war in which victories are few.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] David Vincent, brought to Jackson City by the report of alien presence, must now help a friend account of the absence of that alien. At 2:00 this afternoon, Charles Gilman goes on trial for the murder of Fred Wilk.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] Three more witnesses to testify in David Vincent's behalf, when he has his day in court - when he presents his case to the authorities proving the existence of alien Invaders.

Arnold Andrew Warren:
I'm trying to say as politely as I know how that you're not being very loyal to your race.

James A. Baxter:
Which race is that? Negro or human?

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] For two days, a Senate Subcommittee has been meeting to consider the nomination of a man named Arnold Warren for an important post in the International Space Program. David Vincent has reason to believe that Warren is an alien. He has 24 hours to prove it.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] James A. Baxter, Special Investigator for a Senate Subcommittee, a formidable ally for David Vincent, who will join the battle against an alien race - the Invader from the sky.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] The manager of a famed resort hotel has been driven to suicide by the delusion that alien beings had taken over his hotel. Convinced that the man's story was no delusion, David Vincent promptly traveled to the small Virginia airport.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] David Vincent will seek out the Invader again, facing a world that cannot believe him, not quite so alone now. For he has found another who does believe: a girl of courage and spirit; a girl of vision.

[Opening Narration] Carterville, Wyoming, once a processing center for copper mines, now a relic. Population: 1,216. Principal features: the Laramie Mountains on the south, the North Platte River on the north. Principal industry: contemplation of the past. In its 71 years, Carterville has had only four murder cases. The latest, committed by a member of an alien race, will never be recorded in the history books.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] Carterville, Wyoming. Principal industry: contemplation of the past. Population: 1,216 people, all unaware that they have been given back their future.

Narrator:
[Opening Narration] David Vincent had read the stories in the newspapers: How, before he died, a telephone lineman had described to his partner a glowing, burning man. The story was investigated by the police and promptly forgotten. Seeking the truth, David Vincent traveled to Fort Scott, Florida, headquarters of Vikor Enterprises, or, perhaps, headquarters for a people from an alien world.

Narrator:
[Epilog Narration] As the Invaders move, so does David Vincent, for they must be stopped. They must be exposed. And if he doesn't do it, who will?
