William Friedkin: And I do always come back to the feeling that I have that almost everybody who sees the movie takes away from it what they bring to it.
William Friedkin: I am put in mind of an anecdote about the French Impressionist painter Bonnard, who in his later years was arrested in the Louvre with a little palette and brush, retouching one of his paintings. The security guards grabbed him, and he was shouting, "But I am Bonnard! It's my painting!" And they just kept saying, "The painting is in the Louvre. It's finished!"
