Waiting around for the girls upstairs, after the curtain came down; money in my pocket to spend; "Honey, could you maybe get a friend for my friend?"
Hearing the sounds of the girls above, dressing to go on the town...
Clicking heels on steel and cement...
Picking up the giggles floating down through the vent...
Who's that woman? I know I know that woman, so clever; but ever so sad! Love, she said, was a fad! The kind of love that she couldn't make fun of, she'd have none of. Who's that woman, that cheery, weary woman who's dressing for yet one more spree? Each day I see her pass, in my looking glass. Lord, Lord, Lord! That woman is me!
Good times and bum times, I've seen 'em all and, my dear, I'm still here! Plush velvet sometimes, sometimes just pretzels and beer, but I'm here! I've run the gamut, A to Z. Three cheers and dammit, c'est la vie! I got through all of last year, and I'm here! Lord knows, at least I was there, and I'm here!
Look at me! I'm nobody! Can't you see that I'm a fraud? You couldn't love me! no one could! All I'd do is hurt you, tell you lies! Her zipper stuck, and you kept saying "I love you! I love you!" I only wanted her 'till I had her! After that, it didn't matter! I got a job, and it was easy! But they'll never know! I'm too smart for them! You hear me? They'll never catch me! I'm too smart! I'm too... smart... NO!
