R E Lee knew commanders in both armies as he was commandant of West Point when the cadets were in their 4 years so he remembered McDowell, Hooker, Burnside and Mac.. The only winning general he had in the war between the states was TJJ who did nt need orders from him as did Longstreet at Gettysburgh who thought Lee's orders were discretionary and in fact Lee did not follow up. more »
