  Same idea in the movie Casino, based on true story about Frank Lefty Rosenthal who alway made money for the mob bosses. In the end, he stayed alive because of that. When he was young, he had accumulated $30,000 as a bankroll. He knew mob bosses personally, and could talk directly to a boss because he was a "civilian" and a Jew. (Italian gangsters would only talk to a member of a crew, or at best, the head of a crew, or a capo.) Lefty had the chutzpah to ask two bosses to be his partner and to give him $10,000 each, and he'd put in $10,000. (They usually don't put in any money, they get their share for "protection"). So he had his bankroll, and he was a one-third partner. At the end of one basketball season, his betting had run up the bankroll to $600,000. He gave each boss $200,000. After that, he had the knickname, the Golden Jew. In the end, he just kept on making money for them. And, he stayed alive and always collected on his winnings and was never shaken down or bothered by any criminal. more »
