Long experience has taught me this about the status of mankind with regard to matters requiring thought: the less people know and understand about them, the more positively they attempt to argue concerning them, while on the other hand to know and understand a multitude of things renders men cautious in passing judgement upon anything new.
Love and Respect are the two best investments in any economy. More you give, more are the returns. No market fluctuations can ever erode these two life-long investments. So be smart, be savvy, and start your day with investing in Love and Respect.
Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs, Being purged, a fire sparkling in lovers’ eyes, Being vexed, a sea nourished with lovers’ tears. What is it else? A madness most discreet, A choking gall and a preserving sweet.
Love is a symbol of mutual tolerance and unbiased vision. We should meet each person with love and respect, regardless of nationality, color, or religion. Permeated by love, no one takes up arms, to kill others.
Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler. A man should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be. We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them. A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy? Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex... It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction. All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree. It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer.
Make the most of everything that's available, especially during the challenging times. If life throws lemons at you, make sweet lemonade. Lay down a solid foundation with bricks that your enemies throw at you. And most importantly, make the most of yourself, because that's all there is for you right now.
May no gift be too small to give, nor too simple to receive, which is wrapped in thoughtfulness, and tied with love.
May the sun always shine on your windowpane May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain May the hand of a friend always be near you May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
Merrill One time, I was at this party... and I was sitting on the couch with Amanda McKinney. She was just sitting there, looking beautiful. So, I lean in to kiss her, and I realize I have gum in my mouth. So, I turn to spit it out and put it in a paper cup. I turn back, and Amanda McKinney throws up all over herself. I knew the moment it happened, it was a miracle. I could have been kissing her when she threw up. It would have scarred me for life. I may never have recovered.
Metamorphosis is an inherent part and the most profound process of life, in my view. We constantly transform into better versions of ourselves, like an Ugly Duckling transforming to Swan, and a Caterpillar to beautiful Butterfly. The metamorphosis continues throgh the journey of life, and then from generation to generations yet to come. There is an element of elegance and beauty in the fact that we all evolve, metaphorically, to Butterflies with Earth as our Chrysalis.
Millions long for immortality who do not know what to do with themselves on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
Modern life is full of challenges, such as daily demands, deadlines, hassles and frustrations. Whenever the threat of any challenge outweighs one's perception of her/his ability to manage that threat, it can be an onset of Stress. I find it interesting that William Shakespear had offered a perfect strategy to manage the Stress - in his famous play "Hamlet". In this play, Hamlet makes a powerful statement: "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so." In this one sentence, Shakespear teaches us that if we change our thoughts about a potentially threatening situation, we should be able to not only cope with the stress, but also lower our stress significantly. By now it's a well-established fact in Psychology that thinking positively, and transforming the threat into a potntial opportunity, empowers us to protect ourselves from the harmful side-effects of Stress.....and William Shakespear knew this fact more than 400 years ago. That's amazing!
Money doesn't always bring happiness. People with ten million dollars are no happier than people with nine million dollars.
Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. There is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of its filling a vacuum, it makes one. If it satisfies one want, it doubles and trebles that want another way. That was a true proverb of the wise man, rely upon it; "Better is little with the fear of the Lord, than great treasure, and trouble therewith."
Mumbai never ceases to amaze me, even after more than three decades since I left that city of dichotomies. The paradoxes are perplexing as much as disturbing, e.g. extreme riches juxtaposed with excruciating poverty; indifferent and hard-hearted people co-existing with amazingly generous and exceptionally kind role models; iconic malls, flyovers, skyscrapers and sea-links right next to disgustingly scattered slums; brilliant scientists and awesome artists living peacefully with blind faith and superstitions in daily lives etc are just a few paradoxes that come to mind. And yes, it’s only a tip of the iceberg. The city of dichotomies often leaves the visitor with a million questions that are so hard to answer.
My favorite definition of Love comes from Holy Bible, interestingly - as follows: "Love is patient. Love is kind. Love does not envy. Love does not boast. Love is not proud. Love is not rude. Love is not self-seeking. Love is not easily angered. Love keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
My freedom will be so much the greater and more meaningful the more narrowly I limit my field of action and the more I surround myself with obstacles. Whatever diminishes constraint diminishes strength. The more constraints one imposes, the more one frees one's self of the chains that shackle the spirit.
My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute.
My two rock idols are Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen. Not just because they are from Jersey, but, because they conduct themselves with humility and give a lot back to the public and their respective communities. And, the fact they both ended up marrying someone that "knew them when" is something I admire and hope to have with Tina (Rinaldi) one day.
