In the current national debat on abortion, I'm reminded of Colin Turnbull's description of the Mbuti people in The Human Cycle: "The Mbuti see their life as beginning the moment they were wanted. A corollary to this is there is no such thing as a Mbuti who is unwanted, from point of conception to death. Primitive?"
