Quotes from the news wire:
Presence of disease is an earlier indicator than the hospitalizations and can help us predict workforce needs, staffing needs for hospitals, if you know you've got a community that hasn't had a lot of infection and all of a sudden you're seeing it grow, then you can usually predict that two or three weeks from then, they're going to be seeing more cases in the hospital( and) tragically, death, too. However, with this new BA.2 Omicron variant we are seeing infections but not many severe hospitalizations.
While CDC can provide some leadership there -- they can provide the science, they can provide the evidence, and maybe they can do the modeling -- because that involves so much of a society that's got to come at a higher authority, maybe the Covid Task Force pulls that together and lays it out for the nation.
We've just spent many years preparing and talking about a pandemic, and quite frankly, we were not prepared. We did not put the infrastructure in place that we actually needed to put in place. We de-invested in... our health and public health systems in ways that quite tragically resulted in two years of significant outbreak that did not have to be as bad as it was, the real issue here is that we're about to do the same mistake again. We're about to have the same things happen to us because we have not really invested in the mitigation and adaptation that is necessary to address climate change.

As this goes on, who gets exposed changes. Everybody else is vaccinated, they don't get infected, so now we're seeing, at least statistically, the people who are getting infected changing, add to the fact that we have this new virus, and this new virus is going to do a couple of things. One, it's clearly much more infectious than the other viruses, and it's going to hit the ones who are most vulnerable.

We know that ZIP code matters, we know very clearly that things such as educational attainment, access and utilization of things like tobacco, physical inactivity, nutrition, the location of if they have access to things like grocery stores, all those things matter at the county level and at the local level.
That was good, to see that percentage of women getting first trimester prenatal care is up, we look at the whole range of maternal-child health care as a great barometer of access to care, because there has been an emphasis over many years of making sure that women and children -- even low-income women and children -- get access to health care.
