Quotes from the news wire:
Obviously, the opportunities in leadership is a consideration -- for sure, it's a consideration, but there are lots of other( factors) too. ... I've been doing it for 25 years. I think you got ta get into family considerations, personal considerations. And obviously it's a place where we can make a difference, and that's why you do it.
We're all interested in what went on and hopefully this will shed light on it, i suspect they will be and the question of whether they're going to issue subpoenas is something the committee is going to have to decide based on what they're looking at. Obviously, this warrants further review and investigation, and I'm glad they're doing it.
When the leader over there comes out in opposition to it -- my understanding was they had it kind of worked out, House Republicans and Democrats were going to join together on this based on the changes that had been made, but if that's not the case, that certainly could affect the way people over here view it.
I'm fine with keeping the ban in place but, again, like I mentioned yesterday, Both Sens. Dick Shelby have all these now, Senate Republicans have done it, House Democrats doing it, a lot of our members don't want to get boxed out. If the money goes back in the pool, House Democrats get to decided where it goes. There are going to be good arguments on both sides. And as I was saying, we don't have a proposal yet to change it. So if there is not proposal to vote on, it probably stays in place.
You know, in the conference, he's somebody who we all know is a very independent person and, obviously, you know, we're going to continue to work with him, there is always another day and another vote, and you may not have everybody on every vote. Sometimes you just have to play the next game when it comes along. So we'll be prepared for whatever comes next. And so will he, and I'm sure that the members of our conference will continue to work with him and accept his point of view.
I don't know how they do that, i can't imagine telling the President of United States — one, they are not negotiating with him on the shutdown and, two, now they are going to tell him he can't come to the Capitol to them. United States seems pretty far-fetched. I don't think United States's going to go over very well with the American people.
I just think for most people that has been litigated. That was a big issue over the course of President Donald Trump campaign and people voted for President Donald Trump, i think if you start down that path, that's kind of a slippery slope. I suspect that's precedent that you would create that in the future would get used again for that purpose, and sometimes the shoe may be on the other foot.
