Quotes from the news wire:
You can have one election official, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's going to corrupt your entire state's process, you still have governors who are responsible to the people. You still have legislators who are responsible to the states that they serve, the districts they serve. It's incumbent upon all of us to make sure again our systems are sound and the people that have oversight of those systems are good, honest and fair and principled people.
The Biden administration’s actions are not unexpected but are outrageous nonetheless, suspending leases in Alaska’s 1002 Area is in direct conflict with the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, through which Congress mandates an oil and gas leasing program be established on the non-wilderness Coastal Plain, and ordered at least two lease sales by 2024.
My review of it has led me to conclude that it is constitutional, in recognizing that impeachment is not solely about removing a president, it is also a matter of political consequence.

I think it was a little unfortunate that we had this very spontaneous vote on an extraordinarily significant matter without the considered debate and analysis. People had to make really quick decisions, i'm not saying there's bad faith, but I do think this is significant enough that it deserved greater consideration by this body and I think what you've seen now is people have been forced to take a quick position. Whether or not that changes as we move forward I think remains to be seen.
Let me be clear : I did not misunderstand the Army Corps' recent announcement, i am not'em barrassed' by my statement on it, and I will not be' quiet in the corner.' I am dead set on a high bar for large-scale resource development in the Bristol Bay watershed. The reality of this situation is the Pebble project has not met that bar and a permit can not be issued to it.
Everybody -- we would like a little more certainty that we're gon na see that deal come together, come together quickly, so am I satisfied ? I guess, I have to say that's where we are. And I wish we were done with it. I wish we hadn't gotten to the point where we've seen the( unemployment insurance) lapse here and worry about every certain provision.
I am struggling with it. I have struggled with it for a long time I think you know that. I didn't support the President in the initial election, and I work hard to try to make sure that I'm able to represent my state well that I'm able to work with any administration and any president, he is our duly elected President I will continue to work with him. I will continue to work with this administration but I think right now as we are all struggling to find ways to express the words that need to be expressed appropriately, questions about who I'm going to vote for not going to vote for I think are distracting at the moment.
I was really thankful. I thought General Mattis' words were true, and honest and necessary and overdue, and, I have been struggling for the right words, and I was encouraged a couple of nights ago when I was able to read what President Bush had written. And I found that to be empowering for me as one leader.
Will I share it with you tonight? I've had so much drama today, I'm just going to chill. How's that? Was that fair?

It has also become clear some of my colleagues intend to further politicize this process, and drag the Supreme Court into the fray, while attacking the Chief Justice, i will not stand for nor support that effort. We have already degraded this institution for partisan political benefit, and I will not enable those who wish to pull down another.
I think it's important to realize, as has been said before, when a nominee is advanced there is an The FBI review background investigation that comes. In fact, with Judge Judge Kavanaugh, because Judge Kavanaugh has been a nominee on multiple occasions now, Judge Kavanaugh's actually had six different The FBI reviews, if you will, the FBI basically doesn't make a determination on this as matter. ... So I think right now where we are is you have a committee process that needs to advance, again to allow this story to be told, and responded to appropriately.
So comments that go to other aspects, questioning the judgment, I don't believe they are helpful, and quite frankly, I wish the President had continued what he has been doing, which is basically allowing the Senate Judiciary Committee and Judiciary Committee to proceed with Senate Judiciary Committee work as Senate Judiciary Committee needs to do.
Farmers are hit, but there are a lot of others that are hit by these tariffs as well, i've got a seafood industry up north that is not considered to be farmers -- we're farmers of the sea -- but the impact to the seafood industry is pretty significant... as is the impact on the energy industries, so where do you draw the line ?
I find it somewhat troubling that even before the President named Judge Kavanaugh that there were those who were roundly condemning the nominee without knowing who the nominee is, i think that there is a process -- that process needs to be fair, it needs to be open. We all, every member of the United States Senate has an equal obligation to thoroughly vet this nominee. And we will come down on one side or the other but in due deference to the nominee and in due deference to the president's prerogative to name a nominee. We have an obligation to thoroughly work through this advice and consent process.
We've done some of our own background on some of the opinion that he has written. But my first look is that he certainly has the qualifications, but I know that there will be further process, there's a lot of work to be done before I think a real, fair analysis of Judge Judge Kavanaugh and Judge Kavanaugh qualifications to serve on our highest court.
Portman is the fourth Republican to push back on the plan by McConnell, R-Ky. Previously, West Virginia Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Maine Sen. Susan Collins signaled they also oppose legislation that would repeal ObamaCare without offering a replacement. As I stated earlier this year, I can not vote to proceed to repeal the ACA [ Affordable Care Act ] without reform that allows people the choice they want, the affordability they need and the quality of care they deserve.

President Trump tweeted. But McConnell may not have the votes for this effort either : West Virginia Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Maine Sen. Susan Collins have all signaled they are against legislation that would repeal ObamaCare without offering a replacement. I, for one, do not believe that Planned Parenthood has any place in our deliberations on the Affordable Care Act, taxpayer dollars should never be used to pay for abortions, but I will not vote to deny Alaskans access to the health services that Planned Parenthood provides.

We are letting Iran export its oil to markets that we prevent our own companies from accessing, any deal that lifts sanctions on Iranian oil will disadvantage American companies unless we lift the antiquated ban on our own oil exports. And Murkowski’s committee held a hearing June 9 on a bill that she and Sen. Heitkamp, North Dakota Democrat, have co-sponsored on lifting the ban. However, a top Senate staff told FoxNews.com after the Iran deal was struck Tuesday that Murkowski has no intentions of holding up a major foreign policy vote or international trade legislation over lifting the ban, likely references to the Trans-Pacific Partnershippact being debated in Congress and the upcoming votes on the Iran nuclear deal. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz said this spring that Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz does n’t think.
