They fired Comey because they wanted the Russia investigation to go away. It backfired. Now they have a special counsel and they have got someone who is going to be even less susceptible to pressure than Comey was, their ability to influence and manage this situation has gone out of the window. Things have definitely gotten worse for the White House.
