Yato:
I'm the god Yato.

Hiyori Iki:
The god Yato? I never heard of that god. Not once.

Yato:
Well, I'm sort of an up-and-coming god right now - but just you watch! I'll soon be known far and wide!

Yato:
Losing your body will be common for you now.

Hiyori Iki:
So, how can I get better?

Yato:
I'm not sure you can get better. This is just the way you are now. Accept it.

Yato:
There's no such thing as a free wish.

Rabo:
How my shrine has declined. The world of strife was once filled with countless vile wishes, but their etchings here are long forgotten, and callers come no more.

Rabo:
We are gods of calamity. Where we rise is also where we fall.

Nora:

Rabo:

Rabo:
The god of calamity I know. Where is Yato, the god of calamity... with those beautiful eyes of depravity? Where is THAT Yato god! I wish to cross swords with THAT god of calamity!

Yato:
You come to me. I'll hack that grin off your face.

Rabo:
However many wishes we grant, people will always fear, loathe and forget gods of calamity. For better or worse, people's feelings are always fickle. That is the way of things.

Tenjin:
One god is no more.

Kofuku:
Sounds like Yatty and the others are back.

Daikoku:
When exactly did they become part of this household.

Nora:
People are quick to forget you. Wouldn't you agree? However much you grant humans' wishes, their feelings are always fickle and erratic. Poor Yato. So many times you've been hurt. Remember your true self.

Nora:
Listen, Yato. If you can beat Rabo, I'll give Hiyori Iki her memory back.

Tenjin:
Your connection grants her too much of a focus on our world. It'll keep her from living in her own. If she forgets you now, she'll likely stop changing into a half-Phantom. That will give her happiness.

Yukine:
Why do I still feel physical stuff like this even though I'm long-dead?

Yukine:
I never would have guessed that being a god means drifting around town, sleeping in the corner of some old shrine to avoid attention, and picking through garbage for everyday items.

Hiyori Iki:
I thought people can't see you because you're not human.

Yato:
It's not like that. We're not invisible. We're just hard to notice.

Yato:
Once noticed, we're seen as people, but then we're soon forgotten again.

Hiyori Iki:

Hiyori Iki:

Disorder among people means disorder in the heavens.

Hiyori Iki:
If suicide isn't how they died, then Regalias are people who still want to live, so having other people waste their lives in front of them was something Yato couldn't stand.

Yato:
A borderline serves as a Regalia's shield and only weapon.

[Under Yato's guidance, Yukine makes his first borderline]

Iki Hiyori:
Wow! This is a borderline?

Yato:
Yep, it acts as a boundary between self and others. Phantoms can't cross it.

Iki Hiyori:
Can you do this too? C-can I?

Yato:
You and I can't. Borderlines are a Regalia power. Any Regalia can make them, but creating one this strong right off the bat? This is definitely a first out of all the Regalias I know.

Iki Hiyori:
I'm going to look after Yukine!

Yukine, Yato:
Huh?

Yato:
Are you crazy? He can't stay with you.

Iki Hiyori:
You're the one he can't stay with! You don't even have a place to live or a semblance of a stable life, what with your ex-girlfriends, your affairs, and your friends with benefits! Your depravity knows no end! You're unfit to be his guardian!

Yato:
Unlike this house, shrine grounds and buildings are sacred territory. They keep us safe from Phantom attacks.

Iki Hiyori:
Even so...

Yato:
Night is the time of devilry, when Phantoms that lurk in the darkness come out. I doubt he'll be able to handle it.

Iki Hiyori:
Huh?

Yato:
Yukine, you see... is... afraid of the dark.

Iki Hiyori:
It's been a long time since I've slept with someone.

Yato:
Master and Regalia share mind and body. I get stung every time Yukine gives in to temptation. That's how things work for Regalias and their masters.

Iki Hiyori:
Then, does that mean Yukine got stung too when you swiped some of my father's drinks?

Yato:
Nope. The pain from deranged thoughts only goes in one direction - from Regalia to Master. Regalias used to be people, and people sin. Resentment, fear, envy, desperation, sadness, greed - these and countless other things give rise to temptation. The sin of acting on it turns to pain, which is how we learn, via Regalias, what is right and wrong.

Yato:
People decide what's right and wrong, but those things don't apply to gods. In other words, gods can do anything they want, including hurting someone or taking their life.

Kofuku:
[watching along with Hiyori] An ablution in this sense involves cutting flesh. This is a beating, one that uses Regalia Boarderlines.

Hiyori Iki:
A beating?

Kofuku:
As former humans, only Regalias can judge the sins of other Regalias.

Yukine:
[trapped in the borderlines] Let me out! Let me out, damn it!

Kofuku:
And once an ablution begins, it can't be allowed to stop until it's over, not until the Regalia has confessed and repented every last sin it bears.

Yukine:

Mayu:
What happened to you is actually very contagious, you see. Just seeing or hearing about it can infect others.

Miyu:

Yukine:

So that's the half-Phantom that deludes Yato.

Nora:

Rabo:

Nora:
Yato has grown weak after meeting you; so, please, stop existing.

Yato:
That's a nice crimson sky. Twilight is the boundary between day and night. Those of this world fear the darkness and hide from it...

Bishamon:
...while those of the other world blend into the darkness and run wild.

Yato:
The setting sun blurs all with a reddish hue...

Bishamon:
...as the shadows of evening grow ever deeper and darker.

Yato:
Now is when those in the divide can most easily cross the boundary.

Bishamon:
People once said this was the time of day when monsters come out.

Hiyori Iki:
All the gods have a nice smell to them, but that smell is slightly different for each one.

Yato:
There are Phantoms everywhere, lurking in the shadows, soaring through the sky, resting on people's shoulders. They come in all shapes and sizes, but they're all denizens of the Far Shore, devoid of life. The only ones who can see them are young children, animals, and those like us in the divide between the Near and the Far Shores.

Yato:
But seriously, this bare form of yours isn't safe at all. Be careful. As a living Phantom, you'll really stand out. They'll come for you. They'll come to corrupt and consume your soul. And when you're possessed by a Phantom, you'll lose who you are. You won't hesitate to cross boundaries that shouldn't be crossed, for what you'll find beyond is the pleasure of a living hell.

Yato:
Regalias serve as weapons for gods. With a Regalia, I can cut down anything.

Hiyori Iki:
Oh, so that's why you're completely useless right now.

Tono:
Pave your own fate with your fists!

Hiyori Iki:
Oh, no! You mean I'm not wireless?

Yato:
You, with nowhere to go and nowhere to return, I grant you a place to belong. My name is Yato. Bearing a posthumous name, you shall remain here. With this name I make you my servant - Yuki!

Yato:
Yukine, I'm Yato, your master. I've summoned you from the Far Shore to serve as my Regalia. I permit you to serve and remain by my side longer than kin.

Hiyori Iki:
What's a Nora? I originally assumed it was a name.

Tenjin:
Noras are a disgrace, a private part of a god's life, if you will. Private parts. Get it?

Tenjin:
A Regalia with many owners is akin to a stray cat and is commonly referred to as a "Nora."

Tenjin:
Normally, a Regalia has one name and serves one master. It is common knowledge that to serve a new master one must be "unnamed" by the previous master, just as Mayu was.

Hiyori Iki:
Then why do Noras exist?

Tenjin:
In general, they're used to perform jobs you wouldn't give to your own Regalias.

Nora:
[to Yakine] You really have pretty eyes. They're like the fruit of the hawthorn plants swaying in the breeze, but not even birds will eat them. They're not sweet, bitter, or even poisonous, yet they provide nothing. They're completely useless, empty fruit. No one bothers to pick them, so they're left all alone to wilt, wither, and die. Poor little boy.

Rabo:
He's rejected you. He's unworthy of his scarlet-colored reputation of many years.

Kazuma:
If this delinquent known as Yukine isn't dealt with soon, Yato will die.

Yukine:
Is it me or is this one long fall?

Yato:
Someone who chooses to kill himself isn't cut out for love!

Daikoku:
People's wishes are what let gods exist. Distinguished gods enjoy constant worship and wishes. Not so for obscure gods. They can't even remain in people's memories. So what do you do to keep from being forgotten? You grant any wish you get, no matter whose it is.
