Bubsy 3D

Bubsy 3D

Bubsy 3D (also Bubsy Is 3D in Furbitten Planet and Bubsy 3D: Furbitten Planet) is a platform video game developed by Eidetic and published by Accolade for the PlayStation video game console. It is the fourth game in the Bubsy series as well as the first and only Bubsy game in three dimensions. The game was released on November 25, 1996 in North America and in August 1997 in Europe. A Sega Saturn version was planned for release, but was ultimately cancelled. The game's complete name is a play on words in reference to Forbidden Planet, a 1956 sci-fi film. The game, a 3D platformer, follows Bubsy, an orange bobcat and the central character of the Bubsy series, who must stop a race of aliens known as the Woolies from stealing all of the Earth's yarn by traveling across their home planet of Rayon and collecting rocket pieces and atoms in order to build a rocket ship and return safely to Earth. While 3D video games had existed years before its release, Bubsy 3D was one of the games which contributed to the ascendancy of the 3D platforming genre. Following the disappointing commercial performance of both Bubsy II and Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tales, Accolade turned to series creator Michael Berlyn, who opted to make the game a 3D platformer. Bubsy 3D received mixed reviews upon release, with criticism towards the game's controls, camera, voice acting but with praises towards the two-player mode and the largeness of the levels. Later reception, however, became far more negative. Following the game's release, the Bubsy series went dormant for the next twenty years, not receiving a follow up until Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back was released in 2017.

Two Headed Woolie:
The reason I've called you here today, is to explain where state of general emergency has been called by the Woolie military, as you may already know, a great catastrophe has befallen us, yet threatens to destroy our very Woolie way of life, Bubsy Bobcat!

[Two Headed Woolies shows a video of Bubsy Bobcats crime. The Woolies boo and are scared]

Two Headed Woolie:
Bubsy Bobcat is on Rayon!

Flying Woolie:
We'll all be bopped!

[the Woolies boo even more]

Flying Woolie:
[jumps on podium] Settle down, settle down! Calm down! No one's going to be bopped on my watch!

Zzzot:
How could this have happened?

Two Headed Woolie:
Well... that's a bit of a long story, but here's the Rayon version, approved for public dispersion by their Royal Highness, Queens Poly and Ester!

[the Woolies cheer]

Two Headed Woolie:
Our magnificent queen, devised an ingenious plan to steal all the wool balls of earth, but they were foiled, by the being that is Bubsy bobcat!

[the Woolies boo]

Two Headed Woolie:
Now, our queens have developed and even more ingenious, if such a thing is possible, invasion planning! Unfortunately, we needed to get that fur ball out of the picture!

[the Wooiles cheer]

Two Headed Woolie:
So a crack tube of Woolie commandos were sent to earth. There, they fought bravely, and captured the hideous beast!

[the Wooiles cheer again]

Two Headed Woolie:
To our fine brilliant catapult leader. On the return trip, umm, due to a slight technical difficulty, the rocket carrying our beast crashed, and the bobcat e-escaped!

[the Woolies gasp in shock]

Two Headed Woolie:
Now, if you see the Bobcat, do not, I repeat, Do not approach it! It can be extremely dangerous when frightened by the average Woolie!

[the Woolies boo]

Two Headed Woolie:
Report its where a bouts immediately to the nearest wool solider, we have stationed nose blowers and rock blowers throughout the area around the crash site. We anticipate having re-captured the creature in two sixths of a dogfish's tail. Any questions?

Zzzot:
What does it want? What did we ever do to it?

Two Headed Woolie:
We have our best people in Woolie intelligence working on that right now, so far all we know, is that the creature's plan somehow revolve around collecting atoms and rockets. What it plans to do with these useless, yet abundant natural resources, we have no idea, our best scientists have been stumped by that very question for decades. All they've come up with so far, is a spacecraft capable of interstellar travel. Why would this interest the furry being? Oh again, we have no idea. Now then, I invite all citizens to remain in at home until further notice. This meeting is...

[Then Bubsy jumps on the podium]

Bubsy:
I knew I should've taken that left turn at Glutinous. Was it something I said? What could possibly go wrong?

[Bubsy smiles and holds up the floating atom]

Woolie Crowd:
YAY! [the Woolie crowd cheers and the Two headed Woolie talks at the stand and shows the video footage of Bubsy on TV]

Two Headed Woolie:
We've suffered heavy casualties! For Bubsy has left the Planet! Thank you thank you very much. At approximately 4500 hours. Our majestic queens soundly defeated the furry villain and placed it into custody. [the Woolie crowd cheers again]

Woolie Crowd:
YAY! Woo ho!

Two Headed Woolie:
Unfortunately no one bothered to take the stolen rockets from the culprit. Within seconds it had constructed a working model of the X one rocket that brought it to our planet. Here to explain what happened next, it's Rayons most renowned scientist Professor Woolie Near Dufflewits. [Then the Two Headed Woolie points to the professor at the second stand]

Professor Woolie Near Dufflewits:
Ahem. Using the stored atom capacity he built up in his fur. [the Woolie crowd giggles and makes fun of the Professor]

Two Headed Woolie:
Now pay attention! This is important information! Please Professor continue.

Professor Woolie Near Dufflewits:
Thank you general. As I was saying, Using the stored atom capacity he built up in his fur. [the Woolie crowd laughs and they settle down]

Professor Woolie Near Dufflewits:
Excuse me! Excuse me! Now then, Using the stored atom capacity he built up in his fur.

Two Headed Woolie:
Which I like to add was stolen at the expense of the Woolie water and power company You'll find this prevented in next months electricity bill.

Woolie Crowd:
Doh!

Professor Woolie Near Dufflewits:
Really! If I could be allowed to continue! Using the stored atom capacity he built up in his fur.

Woolie Crowd:
Using the stored atom capacity he built up in his fur!

Professor Woolie Near Dufflewits:
The visitor was able to make an escape. [the Woolie crowd gasps]

Professor Woolie Near Dufflewits:
[Professor talks very fast] However this cloud does have a wool lining. In addition to appearing 32 rockets to specimen took far more atoms than the rockets can handle I predict this will cause an inversion overload of the X load primary core buster resulting in a hyper bailiwick cascade lubber reaction that will tear the very fabric of the space time continuum.

Professor Woolie Near Dufflewits:
[Takes a deep breath and continues to talk very fast] The Bobcat has divisiveness will find himself hurling through time to an earlier period in his planets history our sensible magnetic screens lost track of the rocket somewhere around the dark ages.

Two Headed Woolie:
Thank you Professor Now I'd like to grandstand a bit. If you don't mind.

Professor Woolie Near Dufflewits:
By all means general!

Two Headed Woolie:
Now! No one can stop our invasion plan! Earth and all its wool will be ours! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! [the Woolie crowd cheers. Then a TV screen of Bubsy with his crashed rocket shows up]

Bubsy:
Hey! How did I end up in Triassic park? [Then the TV screen turns off]
