May Heatherton:
Oh, why did I give up the theatre to become a lady?

Roger Hetherton:
Your performance still stinks, my pet.

May Heatherton:
Please, my pet.

Jim Hetherton:
Those who want to fight can. I won't.

Gen. Hetherton:
You're not serious.

Jim Hetherton:
Of course I'm serious. You all know how I feel. It's nothing new. I hate war and I can have no part in it.

Sir Leslie Buchanon:
We all hate war, Jim. It's just there are some things we hate even more. Things we can't go on living with. [Looks at the radio] Things like, well, you heard just now.

Jim Hetherton:
You all despise me, don't you?

Roger Hetherton:
Don't talk rough. We don't despise you. We're just... just trying to understand, that's all.

Jim Hetherton:
Of course, I'm sorry. you've always been considerate. All of you. Mainly because you thought it was just a lot of undergraduate nonsense. Something I'd grow out of. Well, it wasn't. I haven't changed and I won't. They can do what they like about it. Put me in prison. Go to extremes. But I won't kill. And I won't help others to kill.

Tommy Hetherton:
You're not a coward. I don't care what anybody says. I know you're not. And you... you... you are on our side, aren't you?

Jim Hetherton:
Of course I am. If anybody says I'm not, you sock them for me, will you?

Tommy Hetherton:
Oh, I have. Lots of times.

Tommy Hetherton:
You don't think the Germans could win, do you, Daddy?

Roger Hetherton:
Yes, I think they could. But they won't.
