Pokémon: The First Movie

Mewtwo:
The human sacrificed himself, to save the Pokemon. I pitted them against each other, but not until they set aside their differences did I see the true power they all share deep inside. I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant; it is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are.

Mewtwo:
Human and Pokemon can *NEVER* be friends.

Narrator:
Life. The great miracle, and the great mystery.

Mysterious Voice:
[echoing] Who am I?

Narrator:
Since the beginning, humans and Pokémon alike have searched for its meaning.

Mysterious Voice:
[echoing] What am I?

Narrator:
Many strange and wondrous legends evolved for the pursuits of life's mysteries.

Mysterious Voice:
[echoing] Where am I?

Narrator:
But none is stranger than this tale of the most powerful Pokémon of all.

Mysterious Voice:
[echoing] I am ready... to be.

[Somewhere]

Mewtwo:
[slowly wakes up] Where...am I? [looks around and sees itself surrounded in bubbling liquid and sees some people watching him] This...this is not the same. Was everything before just a dream? Why? [goes back to sleep]

Female Voice:
Doctor! Look at this!

Dr. Fuji:
What?

Female Voice:
Its brainwaves. They're surging!

[more voices are clamoring]

Mewtwo:
[wakes up] Those voices.

Dr. Fuji:
I hope we don't lose this one.

Mewtwo:
They're outside.

Dr. Fuji:
We can't lose this one.

Mewtwo:
Where I must be. [his eyes glow blue, breaking the glass container]

[people turn and see the Pokémon]

Male Scientist:
Radio Giovanni's helicopter! Tell him what's happened!

Dr. Fuji:
Quiet! Let us hear its psychic powers.

Mewtwo:
[looks up] "Psychic powers"?

Dr. Fuji:
For years, we struggled to successfully clone a Pokémon to prove our theories, but you're the first specimen to survive. [shows the Pokémon a picture] That is Mew, the rarest of all Pokémon. From its DNA, we created you: Mewtwo.

Mewtwo:
[looks at the picture] "Mewtwo." Am I only a copy? Nothing, but Mew's shadow?

Dr. Fuji:
You are greater than Mew, improved through the power of human ingenuity. [Mewtwo turns to Dr. Fuji] We use the most advanced techniques to develop your awesome psychic powers.

Mewtwo:
So, I am simply the end result of your experiment. What becomes of me now that your experiment is over?

Dr. Fuji:
Oh, our experiment isn't over yet, it's just beginning! Now the serious testing begins.

Mewtwo:
[narrows his eyes] These humans, they care nothing for me.

[the scientists congratulate each other]

Mewtwo:
[becomes tense, then looks at his hands, clenching them in anger] Is that my purpose? Am I just an experiment? A laboratory specimen? [angrily] This cannot be my destiny! [angrily glows blue and starts destroying the lab]

Dr. Fuji:
[sitting on the ground and watching the lab become engulfed with flames; in a horrified voice] We dreamed of creating the world's strongest Pokémon...[Mewtwo starts to form a blue orb around himself] and we succeeded.

[The blue orb enlarges and causes an explosion that destroys the lab entirely, killing all scientists, including Dr. Fuji. Afterwards, a helicopter approaches the island]

Mewtwo:
[looking over the destruction he has caused] Behold my powers! I am the strongest Pokémon in the world. Stronger even than Mew. [hears footsteps and turns around to see Giovanni]

Giovanni:
Those fools thought you were a science experiment. But I, I see you as a valuable partner.

Mewtwo:
"Partner"?

Giovanni:
With your psychic powers and my resources, together we can control the world.

Mewtwo:
I do not need your help for that, human.

Giovanni:
A wildfire destroys everything in its path. It will be the same with your powers unless you learn to control them. I can help you do that.

Mewtwo:
How?

Giovanni:
Trust me, and I'll show you a way to focus your powers that will make you invincible.

Mewtwo:
Show me! [Mewtwo is shown being suited up in armor] You say this armor protects my body, yet it suppresses my powers.

Giovanni:
Your powers are not being suppressed, they're being focused. Learn to use them to accomplish your purpose.

Mewtwo:
What is that?

Giovanni:
Patience, my friend. Your purpose will become clear.

Mewtwo:
[Mewtwo is put on a battlefield, while Giovanni snaps his fingers and Mewtwo easily beats an Onix] So, this is my power. [a group of Tauros stampede towards Mewtwo but he lifts up them using his psychic powers while Team Rocket grunts capture them] I am in control now. [continues fighting Pokémon, still winning each battle easily] But why am I here? [later] Now I fully perceive my power. But, what is my purpose?

Giovanni:
To serve your master. You were created to fight for me. That is your purpose.

Mewtwo:
[outraged] That cannot be. You said we were partners. We stood as equals.

Giovanni:
You were created by humans to obey humans. You could never be our equal.

Mewtwo:
[angrily] Humans may have created me, but they will never enslave me! This cannot be my destiny! [starts breaking free]

Giovanni:
Stop this now!

Mewtwo:
[furiously] I was not born a Pokémon, I was created. And my creators have used and betrayed me. SO, I STAND ALONE! [Giovanni barely escapes while Mewtwo destroys his lab, and escapes to the island where he was created while his armor falls off and also takes off his helmet] Who am I? What is my true reason for being? [fades from the mountains to the ocean] I will find my own purpose... and purge this planet of all who oppose me. Human and Pokémon alike. The world will heed my warning. [menacingly] The reign of Mewtwo will soon begin.

Narrator:
Today, Ash, Brock and Misty are taking a short break from their Pokémon adventures. As always, Ash is determined to become a Pokémon Master. And, as always, he's ready to endure any hardship, bear any burden with strength, stamina and a will of steel.

Ash:
[weakly] Hungry... need food...

Misty:
Oh, Ash, you haven't done a thing all day!

Ash:
I'm too weak to work, Misty. I haven't eaten since breakfast.

Misty:
[groans] Ohh...

Brock:
[cooking] This lunch is gonna be just perfect for you, Ash. It's my Lazy-Boy No-Chew Stew.

[Someone approaches Ash and his friends. Pikachu and Togepi stop playing and run back to Ash and Misty]

Raymond:
[Pointing at Ash] Hey! You there! I'm looking for a Pokémon trainer named Ash from Pallet Town. You know him?

Ash:
Yeah, he's me.

Raymond:
Let's have a match! Unless you're afraid to lose! [grabs a PokéBall]

Ash:
[stands up in excitement] Ha! I'm afraid you're gonna lose this one!

Misty:
Ash, you just said you were too weak to work!

Ash:
That's right, I am too weak to work, but a Pokémon battle isn't work.

Brock:
[still cooking] That's progress. At least his mouth is working.

Pikachu:
Pikachu. [cocking his head to his side in agreement]

Raymond:
[in shock and horror] UHH! OH, NO!

Ash:
[happily] We did it!

Pikachu:
Pika!

Misty:
[surprised] Well, that sure was a shocking ending.

Brock:
Shocking that Ash moved so fast.

Togepi:
Prri!

Jessie:
[after stopping Dragonite with her frying pan] We wanna know what's so special about the twerp trio's special delivery!

Meowth:
[seeing a replier to which Ash replied "yes" to] Hey, look!

James:
"Yes", to what?

Officer Jenny:
It's more than just rain. The harbor manager thinks this could be the worst storm ever.

Miranda:
Listen to me. The prophets have predicted the return of the Winds of Water. For years, I prayed mankind would never witness that deadly storm ever again.

Officer Jenny:
Isn't that just a legend?

Miranda:
Ancient writings tell of the storm wiping out all but a few Pokémon. In their sorrow, the water of their tears restored the lives lost in the storm. But there are no Pokémon tears today - just waters which no-one can survive.

[Corey is riding his Pidgeot over the storm, Fergus jumps on his Gyarados]

Officer Jenny:
Come back here! Or I'll place you under arrest!

[Neesha jumps on her Dewgong]

Dewgong:
Dewgong-Gong!

Officer Jenny:
Come back! Aah! [her hat flies off her head]

Miranda:
Some trainers have no fear.

Officer Jenny:
Huh?

Miranda:
To them, this is just one more challenge. They follow their hearts. That is what sets them apart, and will make them Pokémon Masters. [Corey, Fergus and Neesha are riding their respective Pokémon to get to New Island] Good luck to all of you.

[Ash, Misty and Brock run to the dock]

Ash:
[with determination] The world's greatest Pokémon Master is waiting for me! Let's use our Pokémon to get to that island!

Pikachu:
[with determination] Pika!

Misty:
[concerned] Ash, our Pokémon aren't strong enough! They can't handle giant waves like this!

Ash:
[sadly] Guess you're right.

Pikachu:
[sadly] Pika, Pika.

Jessie:
[in a Viking costume using voice of a Viking] You vant to cross, maybe? Ve take you, ja? Ve Vikings are used to big vaves. Ve get you to New Island faster than you can say, Fahrvernugen.

[cut to Jessie and James rowing the Viking boat]

Jessie:
Stroke!

James:
Uhh!

Jessie:
Stroke!

James:
Uhh! Uhh!

Jessie:
Stroke! Stroke! Stroke! [normal voice] Ohh, I think I'm gonna have one!

Brock:
I didn't know Vikings still existed.

Ash:
They mostly live in Minnesota.

Misty:
Something's not right. Are you sure this boat's safe?

Ash, Misty, and Brock:
WHOA!

Pikachu:
PIKA!

Jessie:
[in a Viking voice] Don't vorry. Dis ship von't let you down. Ve alvays sail in da rough veather. Don't get upset.

Meowth:
[disguised as the boat's figurehead, looking nauseous] Tell my stomach.

Jessie:
Heave.

James:
Ho.

Jessie:
Heave.

James:
Ho.

Jessie:
Heave.

James:
Ho.

Misty:
[to Togepi, who whimpers] It's alright, Togepi. We're gonna be okay.

[a giant wave appears in front of the boat]

Everyone:
[screams in terror] AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

[The wave hits the boat, washing away Team Rocket's Viking costumes in the process]

Ash:
Those aren't Vikings!

Misty:
It's Team Rocket!

Brock:
I should've known there was something fishy about them, besides the way they smell!

Jessie:
Ha! Prepare for trouble!

James:
Make it double! [a wave rises behind them]

Meowth:
[seeing the wave] Forget the motto! We're gonna have to wait--

Everyone:
[screams] AAAAAAAAH!

[The wave hits the boat, throwing everyone overboard]

[After Ash falls in and growls angrily underwater]

Ash:
[emerges out of the water] HEY! [follows the Clone Ball to Mewtwo's lab] YOU'RE NOT GONNA GET PIKACHU!

Jessie and James:
[watching the screen as the balls are moving through the conveyor belt] There goes... Alakazam... Dewgong... Vileplume!

Meowth:
[watching the clone Pokémon being created] Sandshrew, Nidoqueen, Vaporeon. [looks at his clone] But me, I got a special place in my tail for this one.

Ash:
[lands on a conveyor belt with a hard thud] Ugh!

Jessie and James:
Huh?

Ash:
[groans] Ohh.

James:
Ngh!

Jessie:
Look there!

Ash:
Uhh. [to Team Rocket] Aah! I don't have time for your dumb motto today! [grabs Pikachu's ball but a claw grabs the ball and carries Ash with the ball]

Jessie and James:
[watching the screen and seeing a silhouette of Pikachu] Who's that Pokémon? It's Pikachu!

Ash:
[fighting with mechanical claws inside the cloning machine] Ow! Let go! UGH! Stupid machine! UGH! GIVE ME BACK MY... PIKACHU! [biting the machine arm, growling in anger] AAAARRGGH!

[The silhouette of Pikachu disappears and an alarm sounds]

Meowth:
[worried] What's happening?!

[Ash fights against the mechanical arms, breaks loose and frees Pikachu]

Ash:
[in shock] Huh? [happily] Ahh! [Pikachu shakes his head and sputters] Pikachu!

Pikachu:
Pi? Pika-Pi! [turns around and runs to Ash, and they both hug, while Ash laughs and Pikachu squeaks happily at the same time]

Ash:
I'm so glad you're okay. [Pikachu squeaks happily]

[the Pokémon clones start coming down; Team Rocket shudders in horror]

Jessie:
The copies are hatching!

[the Pokémon clones start to hatch]

Jessie:
[amazed] They're fabulous fakes.

Meowth:
Send in da Clones!

Ash:
But where are the real ones?

Pikachu:
Pika?

[the Pokémon clones leave the lab while the alarm gets louder and faster]

James:
[about the clones] I wonder if they feel...

Meowth:
Clonesome.

Team Rocket:
WHOA!

[Mewtwo's cloning machine is destroyed, thereby freeing all the original Pokémon from Mewtwo's Clone Balls]

Jessie:
The Poké originals!

Tentacruel:
Tentacruel. [hugs Team Rocket with its tentacles, scares them]

Mewtwo:
Humans, you have served my purpose. I am sparing your lives for the moment. [thunder crackles] But you cannot escape your fate. The hour of my vengeance draws near. [the floor explodes behind him and his army of clones arrive] Behold! [the Trainers look in shock and horror] With Pokémon and humans eliminated, the clones shall inherit the world.

Ash:
[bravely] You can't do this. I won't let you. [starts walking through the smoke, film-noir-style]

Misty:
It's Ash!

Brock:
Alright!

[Ash starts walking toward Mewtwo with the original Pokémon]

Psyduck:
[walks in confusion] Psy-yi-yi. [pause] Duck.

Misty:
Psyduck!

Brock:
Vulpix!

[Ash and the original Pokémon stop and stare at Mewtwo and the clones]

Mewtwo:
It is useless to challenge me.

Ash:
[angrily] It's not gonna end like this, Mewtwo! We won't let it! [flips his hat backwards] You're mine!

[After Mew deflects one of Mewtwo's attacks, knocking him backwards into the stadium seats]

Mewtwo:
[bursting out of the rubble] So, you do have some fight in you! But I have no time for games. Destiny is at hand. Who will rule? My super-Pokémon, or your pathetic group of spineless inferior Pokémon?

Mew:
Mew.

Mewtwo:
We were created with powers far stronger than the originals.

[Mew replies with a long set of "Mew" sounds]

Meowth:
Mew's got a good point.

Jessie:
What's it saying?

Meowth:
Mew says, "You don't prove anything by showing off a lot of special powers, and that a Pokémon's real strength comes from the heart."

Mewtwo:
[angrily] My clones don't need their powers to prove their worth! [launches a psychic attack at Mew, who dodges; Ash is nearly hit, and Team Rocket are forced to flee from the resulting rubble] I will block all the Pokémon's special abilities using my psychic powers! Now we shall see who triumphs! GO!

[The Pokémon and their clones charge into battle with each other]

Nurse Joy:
[watching the Pokémon battle with the other Trainers] Pokémon aren't meant to fight; not like this. It's useless. What can come out of it?

Neesha:
Nothing, but pain.

Brock:
Why can't Mewtwo understand it's not right to force Pokémon to battle this way?

Misty:
They're all living creatures. This just proves that fighting is wrong.

[Brock's Vulpix and it's clone fall and stop battling in exhaustion]

James:
[he, Jessie and Meowth are watching the Pokémon and their clones fighting] I was prepared for trouble, but not for this.

Jessie:
Make that double, for me.

James:
Now, I can see how horrible fighting really is.

Jessie:
Even the best of friends will fight sometimes.

James:
I'll promise never to fight again if you will! [hugs Jessie and starts crying] Oh, Jessie!

Jessie:
[hugs James and starts crying also] Oh, James!

Meowth:
[watches Jessie and James crying] Hmm. [sees his clone] Hmm? Aah!

Clone Meowth:
[stands up] Meow!

[Both Meowth and his clone retract their claws and prepare for battle, but then stop]

Meowth:
[looks at his claws] Hey, what am I doing?

Clone Meowth:
[looks at it's claws also then sits down lazily] Meow.

Meowth:
Let's get something straight, copycat! You-owth ain't going to push Meowth around!

Clone Meowth:
[scratches itself] Meow, meow.

Meowth:
You mean, we don't have to fight each other? But how can I trust you? You was born different.

Clone Meowth:
[points to Meowth's claws] Meow, meow.

Meowth:
[looks at his claws] I almost made a clawful mistake. But how do I know you're not going to pull a fast one on me?

Clone Meowth:
[looks up to the moon] Meow, meow, meow.

Meowth:
Hmm? [looks up at the moon as well] You're right. We do have a lot in common. The same Earth, the same air, the same sky.

Clone Meowth:
Meow.

Meowth:
Maybe if we started looking at what's the same, instead of always looking at what's different, well, who knows?

Clone Meowth:
Meow.

Ash:
We've got to stop this.

Brock:
But how? All Mewtwo cares about is proving how strong those super-clones are.

[Mew and Mewtwo continue to fight up above]

Nurse Joy:
I'd rather risk my life out in Mewtwo's storm than watch these Pokémon destroy each other.

Misty:
Oh, me, too!

Nurse Joy:
I wish there was some way to stop them. I don't know what to do!

[Ash's Charizard and its clone collapse in exhaustion]

Brock:
I don't think they'll ever stop. Those Pokémon look like they're ready to fight to the death.

Misty:
That's a fight that nobody's going to win.

Ash:
Someone's gotta take a stand. Someone's gotta say "no", and refuse to fight... just like Pikachu.

[Pikachu's clone, exhausted from hitting Pikachu again and again, collapses into its arms]

Brock:
Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny are really great. They just keep getting more beautiful every time I see 'em.

Ash:
Hey guys, how'd we wind up in this place anyway?

Misty:
Well... I guess we're just here because we're here.

Ash:
Yeah. Let's eat!

[last lines]

Ash:
[sees Mew] Hey, what's that?

Brock:
Hmm?

Misty:
What's what? [Mew disappears] I don't see anything, Ash.

Brock:
Except the sky.

Ash:
[smiles] Hmm. The day I left home to start my Pokémon journey, I saw a really rare Pokémon, and just now I thought I saw another one.

Misty:
Well, maybe you're just seeing things, Ash.

Ash:
Huh?

Brock:
Well, maybe he's not.

Ash:
Ha-ha! Hmm. Well, maybe we'll see.

Pikachu:
[nods in agreement] Pikachu.

Narrator:
Many strange legends surround the mysteries of Pokémon, and just as many adventures await our young heroes as they continue on their quest. For Ash and his friends, the journey's just begun.

[Team Rocket is still on New Island, and they don't have any memory how they got there]

Jessie:
I don't have a clue how we got here, but who cares?

James:
This is paradise!

Meowth:
For once, a happy ending!

Team Rocket:
Team Rocket signing off again!! [laughs in happiness]

James:
Do you have any sunscreen?

Meowth:
You know, I'd really like to go sailing in one of them catamarans. Ha-ha!

Ash Ketchum:
That's right, I am too weak to work, but a Pokémon battle isn't work.

Dr. Fuji:
[In horror, last words] We dreamed of creating the world's strongest Pokémon, and we succeeded.

Dr. Fuji:
[archived recording; explosions of Mewtwo's destruction, screams and static are seen and heard while it's playing] I haven't got much time! I pray this record of our experiments survives! A year ago, we discovered a fossil that proved to be the remains of the ancient Pokémon, Mew. There was sufficient genetic material to replicate Mew. But Giovanni, who funded our project, insisted we try to design superclones more powerful than any living Pokémon! Many attempts failed, but finally our experiments proved successful. We produced a living Pokémon. We called it Mewtwo. But for some reason, the creature's anger is out of control! With its psychic powers, it is destroying our laboratory! We dreamed of creating the world's strongest Pokémon, and we succeeded. [the file ends]

Giovanni:

Mewtwo:
Your Pokémon will not be spared. They have disgraced themselves by serving humans. Those Pokémon are nothing but slaves. [Pikachu: Pika, Pika-Pika!] So, you say I am wrong? That you are not this human's servant, you are his friend? [Pikachu: Pika.] You are as pathetic as the rest. [psychically lifts Pikachu and throws him backward] [Pikachu: Ka! Pika-Pi!] [Ash Ketchum: Pikachu!] Humans and Pokémon can never be friends.

Mewtwo:
Humans, you have served my purpose. I am sparing your lives, for the moment. [thunder crackles] But you cannot escape your fate. The hour of my vengeance draws near. [explosion; his army of clones arrive] Behold! [the Trainers look and gasp in horror] With Pokémon and humans eliminated, the clones shall inherit the world. [Ash Ketchum: I can't do this. I won't let you.]

Mewtwo:
[chasing Mew] Why do you flee from me? Are you afraid to find out which one of us is greater?

Mewtwo:
[after Ash has intercepted the blast between him and Mew] Fool! Trying to stop the battle!

Mewtwo:
