The Hare-Brained Hypnotist

The Hare-Brained Hypnotist is a Bugs Bunny cartoon in the Merrie Melodies series, released on October 31, 1942. The cartoon stars Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. This cartoon's plot was re-worked for the 1955 cartoon Hare Brush and its opening music was re-used in the 1946 cartoon Hair-Raising Hare, the 1952 cartoon The Super Snooper and the 1955 cartoon Hyde and Hare. The title, instead of employing the usual "hare" vs. "hair" pun, is standard spelling, for the expression that indicates thoughtlessness or recklessness. Elmer Fudd permanently goes back to his regular design starting with this cartoon.

Bugs Bunny:
Eh, what's up, Doc?

Elmer Fudd:
At wast! At wast, at wast, at wast! I got him wight where I want him! [starts to hypnotize Bugs] Gaze deepwy into my eyes.

Bugs Bunny:
Heh, Dracula.

Elmer Fudd:
You are getting sweepy, sweepy. [Bugs goes into his hole, Elmer sticks his head in] You needn't twy to escape. I have you in my cwutches. So come out of there. Come out. [Elmer emerges out of the hole, holding a balloon disguised as Bugs; the balloon rises up and takes Elmer with it] You are Asweep. Asweep and helpwess.

Bugs Bunny:
[the hypnotized Elmer has gone into Bugs' hole] Hey, doc! Come out of there! You can't do that! Who's the comedian in this picture, anyway?

Bugs Bunny:
How's about that, thinking he can hypnotize me? Ha! [Looks at watch] Oh, I'm overdue at the airport. [He takes off and flies like an airplane] I'm the B-19.
