Fortunes of Captain Blood

Marquis de Riconete:
It is bad enough that I should have business dealings with vermin. I don't wish them to infest my family. Senor Fairfax, if you attempt to see my niece again, I shall have the distinct pleasure of watching you being torn apart by the sharks.

Ship's Lookout:
Captain Blood! Captain Blood, there's a prize off our starboard bow flying Spanish colors.

Capt. Peter Blood:
Bosun.

Boatswain:
Aye, sir?

Capt. Peter Blood:
Man the guns. Cram on full sail.

Boatswain:
[blows whistle] Man the guns!

King Charles II:
You have a galleon of 40 guns. Therefore, we charge you with the personal responsibility of capturing this Captain Blood.

Marquis de Riconete:
I shall do everything in my power, Sire. But of course your Majesty realizes that this is no common criminal you send me after. Blood is a learned, intelligent man. A doctor.

King Charles II:
A doctor? Are the English so hated that their doctors must turn to piracy for a living?

Capt. Peter Blood:
Forget our own men? Slaves of Spain rotting away in the Marquis' dungeons? Do you remember what it was like before we escaped from slavery? The stench from those filfthy holes? The swill? The chains rotting away at the flesh from your bones? The whips and the branding irons?

Tom Mannering:
Yes, I remember.

Capt. Peter Blood:
Don't ask me to forget then.

Tom Mannering:
How do you propose to get into the town? You can't just walk in, have yourself announced to the Marquis.

Capt. Peter Blood:
I'll leave that to Lady Chance. She's obliged me more than once. Perhaps she'll oblige me again. I've great faith in the lady.

Tom Mannering:
You'll need it.

Capt. Peter Blood:
What is that?

Pepita Maria Rosados:
Oh, just the slaves. They're on their way back from the Marquis' pearl fisheries; the ones that are left.

Capt. Peter Blood:
The ones that are left?

Pepita Maria Rosados:
There are fewer every day. Last week, thirty-four. Yesterday, thirty-two. Today, who knows?

Capt. Peter Blood:
What happens to them?

Pepita Maria Rosados:
What happens to anyone who has to dive for pearls in water filled with sharks.

Isabelita Sotomayor:
[in response to Captain Blood throwing away a pearl] How clumsy of you, peddler.

Capt. Peter Blood:
Forgive my hands, Senorita. They are not accustomed to pearls.

Isabelita Sotomayor:
Perhaps you would appreciate them more if you were to dive for one yourself.

Capt. Peter Blood:
Perhaps.

George Fairfax:
This is a night for genius performers, an innkeeper turned actor and a fruit peddler who is both doctor and fencing master.

Capt. Peter Blood:
You seem to forget, Senor Fairfax, that you owe me your life - a debt I may later wish to collect.

Capt. Peter Blood:
It's another kind of surgery I'll be performing tonight, Mr. Fairfax.

George Fairfax:
Look to your own wounds, Doctor Peter Blood.

Capt. Peter Blood:
I will.

Capt. Peter Blood:
To the sharks, Fairfax, to join the slaves you've sent to them.

Let's put to sea, Tom.

Tom Mannering:
Aye, aye, Sir. [turning his attention to the crew] All hands, stand by to make sail... Weigh anchor.
