I Have Decided to Be No One

No One:
I am no one. I have no identity. None of us do, really. Strangers mostly, largely distracted, all on a quiet mission of coexistence. Dreaming of escape from society, politics, people. We are many.

No One:
Upper management. I call them sir. They don't know my name. It's all a game we play for paper. They seem to be winning.

No One:
I am no one's husband. Home early an unexpected. I find her with Eddie. Both handle the shock differently. Eddie freezes, thousand mile stare. He raises a hand as if to wave. In my utter indifference I almost wave back. Stupid.

No One:
No more action items. No more "yes, sir." No more traffic jams or picking the least wilted lettuce from the salad bar or laughing when it's not funny. Give away your sh*t and start living. I have decided to be no one.
