Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman is an American television series based on the DC Comics character Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. It stars Dean Cain as Clark Kent/Superman and Teri Hatcher as Lois Lane. The series aired on ABC from September 12, 1993 to June 14, 1997. Developed for television by Deborah Joy LeVine, the series loosely followed the modern origin of Superman, established by writer John Byrne, where Clark Kent is the true personality and Superman a disguise. The series focuses on the relationship and romance between Lois and Clark as much as the adventures of Clark's alter-ego, Superman.

[as Ultrawoman, Lois pounds a table causing it to collapse. An object from the table hits Clark in the forehead. Clark winces in pain]

Ultrawoman:
Oh! Oh! Clark, are you okay?

Superman:
Uh, fine. Fine.

Ultrawoman:
You're bleeding.

Superman:
It's just a nick.

Ultrawoman:
Oh, God. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

Superman:
Lois, it was an accident. It happens.

Ultrawoman:
Well, it can't happen anymore. No more accidents, no more mistakes... not after tonight.

Superman:
What do you mean? [Lois looks sad] Hey, what is it?

Ultrawoman:
I was landing this plane in Paris, and I heard about this mudslide in Brazil. [Lois chokes up] And I tried to get there as fast as I could, and I wasn't fast enough.

Superman:
Hey...

Ultrawoman:
[hysterically] And what did I do wrong? How come I couldn't get there faster? And why did all those people have to... [Lois sniffles]

Superman:
Lois, listen to me. No matter how strong you are, and no matter how fast, sometimes it just isn't enough. And you have to accept that.

Ultrawoman:
[sobbing] But what makes me a good reporter is that I DON'T accept things. And I'm always questioning, and I'm never satisfied... and I'm never gonna be satisfied with getting there five seconds too late. [Short pause] And I don't care what you say. I know it doesn't make you feel good to watch me do what you were born to do. [Clark chuckles to himself]

Superman:
Well, I admit, I do miss the cape and the "S", and this whole... bleeding thing is no fun.

Ultrawoman:
Yeah, and crying with this mask isn't so great either. [Clark laughs]

[At Jonathan and Martha's, Clark talks on the phone]

Clark Kent:
No, believe me. I... I understand. Absolutely. If the hijackers won't listen, you're gonna have to take 'em out. No, okay, let me tell you about it. In fact... No, let me tell you about one time when I was in that exact same situation. You know, uh... no. Go. Go. But be careful. Hey, love you. [Clark hangs up the phone and joins Jonathan and Martha at the dinner table] Lois says she's sorry she missed dinner, but there's a 747 with a bomb on it.

Jonathan Kent:
Oh. Well, maybe she'll be back in time for... uh, pie.

Clark Kent:
No, I told her just... go on home, get some rest. [Jonathan sighs] Hey, you guys want to play Monopoly? [Martha stops Clark from getting up]

Martha Kent:
Are you okay, Sweetie?

Clark Kent:
I'm fine.

Martha Kent:
What on Earth makes you think you can fool me? [Long pause]

Clark Kent:
No, Mom. I am... I'm fine. I just... I mean, it's not like I'm sick or dying or anything. I just... I guess I just... I don't know what I am.

Jonathan Kent:
Martha, remember when I had the back surgery and was laid up for six months? And we almost lost the farm? [Jonathan turns to Clark] You mother went to work as a secretary, and ended up as office manager with a secretary of her own.

Martha Kent:
Oh, Jonathan. Stop. [Martha turns to Clark] It was two secretaries. [Jonathan chuckles]

Jonathan Kent:
Anyway, your mother saved the day. And it was hard for me to just lie there and watch her do everything. I, uh... I guess I was afraid I was losing her. [Martha scoffs]

Martha Kent:
As if some silly job could ever replace you - either of you.

Clark Kent:
Maybe, I'll take a walk. Maybe... over toward Lois'. Maybe, I'll... wait for her to get home. [Martha grins] Thanks for dinner, Mom. [Clark gets up and leaves. Jonathan turns to Martha]

Jonathan Kent:
Did we raise a smart boy or what?

Martha Kent:
Oh, you were great. [Martha kisses Jonathan]
