Lt. Frank Ballinger:
[spoken in voiceover near beginning of each episode, as he tells audience about a recently committed crime] My name is Frank Ballinger, detective-lieutenant, M Squad, a special detail of the Chicago police.

Detective Lt. Frank Ballinger:
You know, I could tell you things about Daddy that would make your hair stand on end.

Lucy Hinder:
Tell me.

Detective Lt. Frank Ballinger:
No, kid. You're so far out that it might make you like him.

Detective Lt. Frank Ballinger:
Well, sorry you can't stay longer.

Lucy Hinder:
Can't a girl just drop in and say goodbye?

Detective Lt. Frank Ballinger:
Bye.

Lucy Hinder:
Or auf Wiedersehen [kisses him] or au revoir [kisses him again] or arrivederci [kisses him again] .

Detective Lt. Frank Ballinger:
How many languages do you know?

Sam Hinder:
[Walking in on his daughter with Ballinger] You're as low as they come.

Detective Lt. Frank Ballinger:
Hmm hmm.

Sam Hinder:
Trying to get at me through this child.

Detective Lt. Frank Ballinger:
[unintelligible]

Sam Hinder:
You're an animal. A gutter rat.

Lucy Hinder:
Gutter rat? Poor Lieutenant Ballinger is more the frightened mouse. [Sam slaps her]

Detective Lt. Frank Ballinger:
Heredity's a wonderful thing, huh, Sam? Now look, you and I aren't going to tangle over this child. We got bigger things to fight over.

Detective Lt. Frank Ballinger:
[Awakened by ringing phone] Hello. Oh, will you please go away?

Lucy Hinder:
Don't hang up. I'm at Daddy's apartment at the hotel, and you'd be very foolish not to come over here right away.

Detective Lt. Frank Ballinger:
O.K., I'll be foolish. Bye.
