The summer of 1875 was Wyatt Earp's second year as Deputy Marshal of the trail's end town of Wichita, Kansas. During that first, violent summer, Wyatt had grabbed the town by the tail and held it on the ground while hundreds of armed and defiant cowboys from the cattle trail tried to keep it on the prod.
