Quotes from the news wire:
When you finish the season the way we did, it eats at you forever. It will never go away, i've just seen this time and time again, not only in my own career, but you just look around in sports history, this happens. It happens where you go through an epic collapse or failure, and then that actually turns out to be the very thing that sparks you to go to that next level. That's what we're believing and thinking is gonna happen in Indianapolis.
We'll pull out concepts that he's done a lot in Atlanta and he's been successful with. We'll listen to how he's thought about those things, how they complement what we do, and then we'll find ways to integrate some of those things, i can already tell in a few short discussions with him, that we will create some things together. Some of it is bringing together his old (playbook) and what we've been doing, yet there's still things that will be created together. I'm looking forward to those.
... but it will be very gradual and deliberate. And of course were taking steps to make sure were in compliance with state and local regulations, and NFL and CDC guidelines. That means primarily employees that must be in the office to do their jobs : people who need to access files that are only at the office ; maintenance workers ; trainers ; and technology workers. Those people will have their temperature taken when entering the building and must wear personal protective equipment. The Colts have set up one-way hallways with arrows on the carpet pointing to the proper direction, and there will be limits on how many people can be in rooms at the same time. Coach Frank Reich was realistic about a full return to the training complex. The guys who have been hurt, who have been coming into the building, keep coming in and rehabbing and doing their thing, other than that, as soon as we can get more players in the building we want that to make up for a little bit of lost time. The sooner we can get together and get out there working, the better it will be. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones took part in an owners conference call from the teams practice facility, The Star. About two dozen staffers were present at the complex. The Steelers are doing a soft reopening Tuesday mainly for medical personnel and rehabbing players. They expect to ramp up use of their facility next week under league guidelines. As the Cardinals reopen, only essential staffers will be involved, far fewer than the 75 allowed at the facility. The Super Bowl champion Chiefs also opted for a soft opening, as did the Falcons, with only about 15 people at their complex on Tuesday. Those numbers will increase over the next week.
We did have an hour-plus conversation about his role, about our team and about the situation he is stepping into, he handled it just how I thought. I mean this guy is a pro. So it was more very conversational. It wasnt a Rah-rah thing. It was more centered around, Be yourself. You dont have to be a hero.
Brian has the toughness and accuracy we look for in a quarterback and hes been in offensive systems that are similar to ours, he has a tremendous amount of experience and is a proven leader. Brians knowledge will be a valuable resource in supporting Jacoby and the team on and off the field. Were excited to have him here.
The quarterback and the center really have to have complete control over (protection schemes) and I think Jacoby has made major he was good last year, but I really think hes made major strides to get really good in that area, and just generally speaking, getting the ball out quick with rhythm, with timing.
