Quotes from the news wire:
When I sat there, I was in my hair and makeup trailer, and heres what I felt. In my belly, I felt a flutter. I felt like a little butterfly in my stomach, and immediately I knew that I had life inside of me. the doctor says, you see that right there, that little grain of rice ? Thats the baby. You see that other little grain of rice over here ? Thats the other baby.
The 49ers and Chiefs are run by women and you've got two women heading the halftime show. That statement alone for me is empowering, when I think of my daughter, when I think of all the little girls in the world to see that, two Latinos doing that at this time in our country it is just very empowering.
Lorene always knew what she wanted for this film before she even shot any film, she was so clear, but it was a moment where I had worked so much in the year. And I said I have to take time off, I have to be with my kids. I just have to, I'm sorry I can not do this movie right now. It was the first time I've ever done that in my career. And [ Lorene ] was like,' No, do you not want to do the movie ?' And I go,' No, I actually do, but if you have to move on I understand, but I have to do this for my life right now.' And she was like,' I don't care. You're Ramona and we're gon na make to the movie.' Like she was had so much conviction on what she believed this movie had to be and what it was going to be. And didn't move on. She's like,' I will wait for you. I will. We'll wait. We'll do it.' And it actually turned out even better.
Like my heart is beating out of my chest, and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas was with me in my trailer. And then we walked to the set together when I was ready. And so for that scene it was, it was middle afternoon and I put on that costume, i'm walking in and I see all the people and as and I see all the cameras set up and all the guys talking and everything and I'm like,' my heart, my chest.'.
I think, you know, the, the whole idea of us being the bad guys and the good guys, being the anti-heroes of the story, you kind of off put a lot of men, you're just not used to seeing it, we are the bad asses, but we're also bad. And that's those complicated type of female characters. It's not something you always get to see. And I think it scared off a lot of people in the beginning.
This is why being a business owner, and having actual ownership in companies (not licensing), is so important to me and Alex, especially as Latinos. Its about showing our community, this is what life can be. You can take charge and take ownership. It allows us to have a say in creating things that make peoples lives better and have partners that share our passion for giving back. Because giving back and being there for others is really what matters most , we are happy to be in business with partners who also believe no child should EVER have to go to sleep hungry. Everyone should have access to delicious, nutritious food. This was my favorite moment of the month and its one of the best things weve been able to do.@tillerandhatch#tillerandhatch.
I was literally sitting in my bed yesterday and they were sending me all the reviews. I could not believe it, i was crying, me and my girlfriend of 20 years were sitting there and she was trying to film me. I was like,' Oh my God.' You work hard your whole life and you wonder if anybody notices in a sense, on that level, to be in that conversation. You have dreams when you're a little girl of being [ at the Oscars ], you know what I mean ?
It was our little anniversary, so it was a special night. I kept thinking Oh, GodFebruary 3 ! Thats our day. Oh, my God ! Its been a year. It was more spontaneous than anything else. It wasnt too planned. I thought about it, and I thought, Maybe Ill do it ; maybe I wont, but it was a great show, in general, and... I dont know. We felt really good.
I grew up in the MTV era, i was watching all the way back from Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen and Madonna and Janet [ Jackson ] and Michael [ Jackson ], all of them. They were my inspirations to get into the music business, to do what I did. Their videos inspired me to do the videos I did. Now, to be 20 years in and here and winning this award, it's just mind blowing.
Getting to play the part of Selena was life-changing for me, i got to immerse myself in her life, got to know her family, her home, her culture ... every part of her story. It was a special time in my life both professionally and personally. Playing her not only opened doors for me in the film world, but it inspired me to start my own music career. In a lot of ways, I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't had that experience.
