Quotes from the news wire:
To birdie the last two holes is really big for me right now as I'm looking to gain confidence under pressure and test some of the stuff I've been working on, in this matchplay format it feels like you're battling to win a golf tournament on a Saturday or Sunday. So it was really cool to hit some clutch shots and pull off the tie.
It was 75 percent you have to do The American world number two yourself ; and then 25 percent relying on my team, family, friends, and then mentors, messages I get from mentors, pretty much saying,' Hey, you've been in contention six out of the last eight majors, won a couple of them. Something like that, the wrong miss at the wrong time, is bound to happen at some point.' .
We are tired of hearing about changes that need to be made. We are tired of hearing about the past. And we're ready to believe in kind of a younger, more hungry team going forward, it's still a long ways until Hazeltine, but if we can continue what we've been doing over this past year in young American golf, we're going to go in and get in that team room and be pretty excited about who is next to us.
There's nobody that had more influence in my golf game than Tiger, he still has a lot of good years ahead of him in my mind, but now he's really sitting back and saying 'You know if it takes that long...' He's got it figured out -- obviously it's frustrating for him, but we haven't seen the end of him.
The biggest highlight of my week was yesterday, was our comeback with Dustin Johnson when we were 3-down at the turn and 2-down with -- really 1-down with a couple to go, that was a huge match, I think obviously for the team, because they were supposed to win that match. We instead, won that match, not only we tied, we won, but that flipped two points and ended up being a point difference.
I got frustrated. I missed two cuts in a row, had never done that, lost the number one ranking. I was watching Jason Day just dominate golf, i got to work, put my head down a little more than I did right after the PGA( Championship), knowing that we could still peak this week( at the Tour Championship) and that's what we did.
I'm very pleased with the way I played, i think the way that I played this week and especially today would have won the U.S. Open by more than just a shot. I didn't play as well there. It's just that's the kind of golf that was played by the field this week, it just took some special golf. Whoever comes out the champion, that's a hell of a major.
It's a cool atmosphere, it's unlike any other event. It's been a lot of fun the last couple of days. ... I came out here Friday because the weather has been rough in Dallas. It's been tough sitting on the couch watching these tournaments and not playing in them and watching my peers get out there and compete. I want to get back at it.
