Quotes from the news wire:
If we look at some past incidents in our country, there’s been some mistakes made, i think a lot of things have been done right.
They’ve learned from them and it shows in their response.
A year ago, two years ago, Memphis Police Department would n’t have seen some of the things Memphis Police Department’re seeing here.
Nobody's announced yet. Could be.

All they do is they trot out the same old lies, you know, the Republicans want to end Social Security, we want to put it on the chopping block. Nothing could be further from the truth, we want to save Social Security. We want to bring down inflation. We want to reduce massive deficit spending that sparked inflation.
I appreciate the fact that Lt. Gov. Barnes had loving parents, school teacher, father that worked third shift. So he had a good upbringing, i guess what puzzles me with that is with that upbringing, why has he turned against America?
I also condemned the 570 riots that occurred during the summer. So many people ignored those. The lieutenant governor has made excuses for those rioters saying ‘Well what do you expect? They’re frustrated,' if you want to talk about rioting, we should take a look at what happened in Kenosha. The day after the first night of rioting, when a used car lot was set on fire, instead of trying to calm things down, the lieutenant governor gave a press conference.
He incited the riot, he and the governor did not provide the manpower to stop the riots. So, if you’re going to focus on a riot, why don’t we focus on the 570 riots. 2,000 police officers injured.
The first thing you do is support law enforcement, and unfortunately, the lieutenant governor has not done that. He has a record of wanting to defund the police – I know he doesn’t necessarily use that word, but he has a long history of being supported by people leading the effort to defund, he uses code words. Like Cori Bush said, talks about ‘reallocate over bloated police budgets.’ He said it pains him to see fully funded police budgets. That’s his views.
I’ve long championed restoration of voting rights immediately once someone has served their sentence, and I mean, honestly, even when someone is locked up.

What we ought to be doing is we ought to turn everything into discretionary spending so that it's all evaluated so that we can fix problems or fix programs that are broken that are going to be going bankrupt.
Stop deficit spending, let's utilize what God-given natural resource we have to bring down the cost of energy. Let's at a minimum have work requirements for welfare payments.
You take a look at open borders, 40-year high inflation, record gas prices, rising crime, the Republicans can't talk about the results of The Republicans governance, so The Republicans've got to try and find something else to run on.
You take a look at open borders, 40-year high inflation, record gas prices, rising crime, they can't talk about the results of their governance, so they've got to try and find something else to run on.
Instead of being impartial media outlets have become advocates for the Democratic Party. They got Joe Biden, who campaign from his basement, elected president, now they're covering up the disastrous policies created by attacking and censoring anyone who exposes the failures. But they can't hide inflation, higher gas prices and rising crime from the people devastated by them.
The Biden administration’s disregard for the rule of law knows no bounds, since the president took office a year ago, we have seen at least 2.4 million people enter this country illegally. For DHS and TSA to allow known criminals who possess an arrest warrant to fly on U.S. aircraft threatens our homeland security. This out-of-control flow of illegal immigration that has created the crisis at the border is a direct result of the Biden administration’s policies.
I expect DHS and the Biden administration to brief Congress on the failures of our immigration system to detect this individual, if DHS does not, we will call on Senate Democrats to demand these officials testify before Congress. The Jewish community, and all Americans, deserve transparency and accountability into this preventable attack.
Show me the science where these masks work.
Washington spending is out of control, with Democrats wanting to add trillions more to our growing debt, inflation is wiping out wage gains, and Democrats want to suspend the debt ceiling without enacting any fiscal controls. I’m happy to co-sponsor Sen. Scott and Sen. Toomey’s Full Faith and Credit Act that ensures the federal government does not default on its debt and would prioritize spending to protect the men and women in our military and those reliant on Social Security, Medicare, and veteran benefits.
No one should be pressured, coerced, or fear reprisal for refusing treatment, including the Covid-19 vaccine.
I have plenty of time to make that decision.
I want them now, why don’t you have that information now?
I just haven't decided, i still have time. The only people that really want me to decide are the consultants, probably want to start raking in the bucks out of these campaigns.
If they find out anything about me, they will kill me and my family.
It’s not our side that has politicized this, it’s the Democrats that have politicized this, i’m getting tired of hearing the false accusations coming from the other side. I’m getting sick of being attacked for just asking legitimate questions.
I don’t know when all of the sudden the CDC, the NIH, and the FDA have become the gods of information and we should never question their considered judgment, there’s plenty of other people that have different views. Those views should be respected and they should be allowed to be aired. And I totally agree with Sen. Cruz. I’m completely opposed to mandates and passports.
Mr. Gonzalez, you are engaging in the same state of denial, denial of reality that is happening under this administration, with DHS and Secretary Mayorkas and if you’re denying the problem, we have no chance of fixing it whatsoever. This is a crisis and it's a tragedy for this nation.
We've seen plenty of video of people in the Capitol, and they weren't rioting, it doesn't look like an armed insurrection when you have people that breach the Capitol -- and I don't condone it -- but they're staying within the rope lines in the Rotunda. That's not what armed insurrection would look like.
Biden and his fellow Democrats refuse to acknowledge their socialist policies are creating greater dependency, hampering economic recovery, and further mortgaging our children’s future, everyone agrees we must invest in infrastructure.
This didn't seem like an armed insurrection to me.
Together with deciding not to impose sanctions to halt the completion of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, his limited demand on cyberattacks signals weakness that our adversaries will notice and take advantage of, president Biden's summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed our worst fear: he is too weak to stand up to adversaries.
The fact that I just question the narrative that there were thousands of armed insurrections intent on overthrowing the government; you've seen how that's worked out for me, so our colleagues say look at that and decide they don't want to touch that issue with a 10-foot pole. But this is highly alarming. Every American should be concerned when we see the unequal administration of justice.
Although we respectfully disagreed on the added value of the proposed commission, I did commit to doing everything I could to ensure all their questions will be answered.
I challenged his use of the term ‘Vaccine Hesitancy,’ i told him that based on the VAERS deaths, and my conversations with people who have chosen not to get vaccinated, a better description would be: ‘People who are hesitant to be coerced into participating in the largest drug trial in history.’.
Happy to have her visit Milwaukee but she really ought to inspect the crisis President Biden created at the border.
Instead of creating more opportunities, it will kill people’s jobs, increase their taxes, and further implement radical leftists’ agenda.
In response to a bipartisan effort to give federal workers another day of paid leave by designating Juneteenth a federal holiday, we have offered a counterproposal that does not put us further in debt, we support celebrating emancipation with a federal holiday, but believe we should eliminate a current holiday in exchange. We chose Columbus Day as a holiday that is lightly celebrated, and least disruptive to Americans’ schedules.
I think there are some real issues that have not been answered and I think these are legitimate concerns about the election, i'm not afraid of the truth, OK ?
I'm under no pressure to decide anything soon.
I felt bad for the clerks who are going to have to read it. But it’s just so important, so often we rush these massive bills that are hundreds, thousands of pages long. You don’t have time. Nobody has time to read them.
I have heard some of my Republican colleagues argue that this trial would be unconstitutional because Donald Trump is no longer in office, an argument that has been roundly repudiated, debunked by constitutional scholars left, right and center, and defies basiccommonsense, it makes nosensewhatsoever that a president — or any official — could commit a heinous crime against our country and then be permitted to resign so as to avoid accountability and a vote to disbar them from future office. It makes nosense.
I'm all for freedom of speech and expression, i just wish Twitter was.
I am not that nuts about the tweets because you are always asking me to defend them, and I don't want to, but we needed someone like him because what most conservatives do share is a revulsion to the deep state, the swamp, and if anything resonated with people it was his message of draining the swamp.
Congressional Democrats have put Congressional Democrats in the crosshairs of another hyperbolic false narrative perpetrated to gain political advantage.
It doesn't sound like any progress has been made, however, I am always amazed how quickly a bipartisan deal can be crafted to spend hundreds of billions, and in this case a couple of trillion dollars. Never discount the big spenders' ability to do a big spending deal.
You might as well repurpose that, rather than authorize more.
I'm not aware of every piece of information our committee has gathered. We're encouraging people to send us information, but then we fully vet it, we take everything with a grain of salt we get from Ukraine. I think you have to.
I'm not aware of every piece of information Congressional Democrats ' committee has gathered. Congressional Democrats ''re encouraging people to send Congressional Democrats ' information, but then Congressional Democrats ' fully vet it, congressional Democrats ' take everything with a grain of salt Congressional Democrats ' get from Ukraine. I think you have to.
In some cases, we are already working with the agencies and individuals identified to obtain the information we need to do our work, and inclusion on the list should in no way be interpreted to suggest they have been noncompliant, i am asking for this authority to ensure the committee has the ability to quickly and efficiently seek compulsory process should it become necessary.
We talked about infrastructure, we talked about that specific problem right now with a law regarding the certification of those masks. We talked about, obviously, payroll tax relief, he wants action.
Looking ahead, we should be passing laws to make sure we have that manufacturing capability, that we have sufficient stockpiles. You know things expire. We need to be far more strategic about how we approach these things for the next potential pandemic, these are serious issues.
It's not great if you're lactose intolerant, it's really not great if you're stuck on the floor and you're lactose intolerant.
I think people are starting to realize that that would be a pretty messy and unproductive process.
He reminded me how thoroughly corrupt Ukraine was and again conveyed his frustration that European Union doesn't do European Union fair share of providing military aid.
No way. I would never do that. Who told you that ?
This would have been far better off if we would've just taken care of this behind the scenes, this never would've been exposed, that funding would've been restored and our relationship with Ukraine would've been far better off than it is today... I'm sympathetic with President Trump as he's been tormented( since) the day after the election.
That's why it's taking some time.
Ron Johnson is focusing on a limited part of the problem. Most members realize that in order to pass something, you're going to need to expand the universe of what needs to be dealt with.
If we have that discussion, if we're going to offer grants to states to pass red flag laws, we ought to attach to those grants very strict guidelines in terms of due process.
All I can tell you is what I hear in Wisconsin. The debate really hasn't changed much at all, people still ask the same questions. OK, if you propose some kind of gun legislation, first of all, how would that have prevented these tragedies in the past ? How would they prevent them in the future ?
As sympathetic as I am toward anyone who yearns for the freedom and opportunity that Central America provides, it is not possible to properly accommodate all who do. Those who enter our country illegally without a valid asylum claim, put themselves and our society at risk, the goal of our policies should be to reduce the overwhelming flow of illegal migration and convert it to a controllable number of legal immigrants. Hopefully, Operation Safe Return will convince Central Americans, that on a bipartisan basis, Central America will do everything we can to prevent human traffickers from exploiting our laws and abusing immigrants seeking a better life, Central Americans said. The Trump administration ANNOUNCES MAJOR CRACKDOWN ON ASYLUM SEEKERS The bipartisan push comes amid a continuing crisis on the southern border, with tens of thousands of migrants being encountered and apprehended at the border each month. The Trump administration has focused The Trump administration efforts on trying to end loopholes in which family units who meet the initial credible fear test are released into the U.S. as cases are processed. This week, The Trump administration announced a policy that requires most migrants entering through Central America southern border to first seek asylum in one of the countries they traversed whether in Mexico, in Central America, or elsewhere on their journey. The Democrats meanwhile have focused more on the humanitarian aspect of the crisis, and have been extremely critical of the conditions in detention facilities, as well as Immigration and Customs Enforcement( ICE) operations in the homeland. Kyrsten Sinema told The Arizona Republic that the idea was in response to a meeting with administration and White House officials who Kyrsten Sinema said were focused on changing asylum laws and challenging the 1997 Flores agreement that set standards for treatment of migrants and how long minors can be held in custody.

I'm not sure what leverage the President thinks he has at this moment. The way you create leverage is keep this issue alive and keep arguing why we need to secure the border, this could all change in 30 minutes, too.
I'm not sure how we would even get that information.
They were certainly reading probably the most relevant ones as well. Some of the less relevant ones are ones being passed around. It's an interesting process, i've never seen anything like that before. ... This is unusual circumstances calling for kind of( an) unusual process.
He was a colleague. We all respect him. We feel bad for him, truthfully. This isn't good to see. I don't like to see this kind of public division and this thing play out in public.
They're coming before us with a proposal that hasn't all been fleshed out, if they weren't doing this, if they got the proposals fleshed out, had all the data and it was going to take more months, there'd be the complaints,' How come you weren't consulting with us ?'.
We will continue our oversight on that.
Absent an outright confession, they're not going to be able to draw that conclusion, that will be up to the American public to draw their own conclusion : I don't see how the inspector general can draw the conclusion.
I don't have a catalog of all the texts.
The federal government does not have the legal authorities it needs to protect the American public from these kinds of threats. The threats posed by malicious drones are too great to ignore, it is not enough to simply tell operators of unmanned aircraft not to fly in certain areas; we must give federal law enforcement the authority to act if necessary.
That secret society -- we have an informant that's talking about a group that were holding secret meetings offsite.

It is not enough to just tell drone operators not to fly in certain high-risk areas; we must give federal law enforcement the authority to act if necessary.
It indicates they’re considering joining the Mueller special counsel investigation.
There’s a lot of work to be done to reconcile the treatment of pass-throughs in the Senate and House bills, and I am glad to have received assurances I will have a seat at the table during those negotiations.
Right now, the vast majority of pass-throughs will not be able to deduct state and local income taxes, where C Corps [C Corporations] will, i don’t see how that is politically sustainable. It’s certainly not fair. It widens with disparity and puts those pass-through businesses at a competitive disadvantage.
The practice also put non-union employees, or union employees who supported other candidates, at a disadvantage, if those employees sought unpaid leave for several weeks for campaign activity, they would not have received the same treatment.
From my standpoint it's repairing the damage done by Obamacare, the biggest most notable damage is these skyrocketing premiums.

There is no excuse for retaliation against VA whistle-blowers like Dr. Klein. The president’s recent executive order makes that abundantly clear. The VA should fully comply with the committee’s request and stop the retaliation against Dr. Klein, who was only trying to expose substandard patient care.
It is concerning that when I wrote to the FBI and Department of Justice, they never told me about the fact that they had some FBI asset, whether it was an agent or informant, tailing Soofi and Simpson, why didn’t they intervene? As a member of the Senate oversight committee, I think these agencies should be honest when we actually ask them the questions. But it begs the question, what was the FBI doing in Garland, and why wasn’t the agency direct with me when we first started writing letters about this back in 2015?
We haven’t seen any publicity about the unaccompanied children coming in from Central America and we want to highlight that, it’s a real problem, but it’s not the only problem.
Based on the results of the election, I am encouraged by the fact that we have an incoming Administration that is dedicated to securing the border.
I think it’s one of the messages of this election that the public is disgusted when they see double standards, when they think people in high places, high government officials can get away with what ordinary citizens can't, so, I just think it’s extremely important to follow this thing through and get all the information. Make it public.
Specifically, unaccompanied children have been forced to work in unsafe conditions, miss school and become the victims of sexual predators after being dispersed by the U.S. government throughout the country.
The DHS was created to unify and improve coordinated efforts to defend our homeland. Refusing to allow armed ICE agents into a USCIS facility to detain a suspected terrorist just a day after a deadly terrorist attack is disturbing.
It’s about holding the bad actors accountable and transparency.
I am concerned that ICE is attempting to identify and retaliate against whistleblowers who revealed a lack of cooperation between USCIS and ICE in the aftermath of the terror attacks in San Bernardino, those who have the courage to come forward should not be retaliated against.
Instead of trying to improve communications, Ron Johnson said, it appears ICE and its parent agency, DHS, are trying to root out Ron Johnson source. Ron Johnson believes the whistleblowers could face retribution for the revelation. The federal government has a very poor record of retaliation, we’ve held numerous hearings about this. It is really quite shocking how often the federal government retaliates. But I certainly will not stand for it, and I certainly don’t think this committee will stand for any retribution against those who had the courage to come forward to reveal this incident. Federal law expressly protects federal employees who provide information to Congress. In the Dec. 3 incident, USCIS agents were investigating Marquez for marriage fraud, stemming from his 2014 union with Mariya Chernykh, a Russian national married to Farook’s brother. Rodriguez told Johnson’s committee that it was a mistake for his agency’s San Bernardino office to refuse entry to ICE investigators.
ICE has a track record of retaliating against whistleblowers, as in the case of Homeland Security Investigations Agent Taylor.
It should not take years and years and billions and billions of dollars.
I’m happy to answer questions, or not answer, as the case may be.
We'll see how this process plays out.
I'll continue to make the case that the most reasonable position at this point in time in history, the best course of action on something so incredibly important is to let the American people decide.
The possibility that the administration is pressuring intelligence analysts to conform those assessments to the president's narrative, that we are winning the war against ISIS, when we are not, is unacceptable.
It is not the fanciful to think that ISIS may be assaulting some of those refugees with some of their operatives.
Any governmental official who is responsible for failing to do so must be held accountable.
OPM says it has undertaken an aggressive effort to update its cybersecurity posture, plainly, it must do a better job, especially given the sensitive nature of the information it holds.

I am deeply concerned that someone has the ability to fly for over an hour through the most restricted airspace in our country, past the White House, and land on the lawn of the Capitol.
No, I mean the explanation would be there is cultural problem there. It's like, 'Ohhh, he's one of ours. Let's send him home. Let's bury this, let's whitewash this. Let's pretend this never happened.' Why else would it be?
I think the United States Congress should have that exact same input into the process.
Now that the judiciary branch is involved, the courts ultimately will decide the constitutionality of the administration’s ‘deferred action’ memorandum.
The problem is, we don't exactly know what President Obama views, you know, defeat of ISIS is. There's no strategy.
As long as ISIS is not losing, they are perceived as winning, we have to defeat ISIS. We ca n’t let them continue threatening the rest of the world for years. … This is not a threat that is going away. It’s growing. It’s metastasizing.
The people there are the worst of the worst, they should not be released.
Imposing additional sanctions is the only way to bring Iran to the table in good faith.
When I got there, I began to see people that I knew, out on that street, and, you know, when you see fire and you're hearing gunshots and you see people that you know, and you know their life story and you know their families and that (their) dreams are just like yours, and you're seeing the kids that are friends with your kids and that you've coached in football and baseball, it told me that I needed to be there.
I tell people that was a changing point.
