We are fortunate that there has been an intense effort to get data about women who do get vaccinated while pregnant to understand what happens so other women can learn from that, based on what we know right now we recommend that women be offered vaccines during pregnancy, that they’re eligible to get them and that they can make a choice about it.

Anne Schuchat is a United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps rear admiral and doctor who currently serves as the director for the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Having worked with the CDC on immunization, respiratory, and other infectious diseases since 1988, she served as the Interim Deputy Director for Science and Public Health at the CDC from February 2009 to June 2009. She has also held other posts in the CDC.
