Quotes from the news wire:
Now there will be those both in our state and across the country who will point to our victory tonight and try to use it to argue there is no voter suppression in Georgia, let me be clear. The fact that millions of Georgians endured hours in lines – and were willing to spend hours in line – lines that wrapped around buildings and went on for blocks, lines in the cold, lines in the rain, is most certainly not a sign voter suppression does not exist.
I think that the issue that we're dealing with right now is that we have a contrast between somebody who believes in a woman's right to choose, who believes that a patient's room is too small and cramped a space for the woman, her doctor and the United States government, and somebody who wants a nationwide ban with no exceptions.
When I looked up and saw that a kid who grew up in public housing was sitting in the Oval Office looking the President of the United States of America in the eye, I said to him, ‘Mr. President, I need you to do student loan relief, and I need you to do it as soon as possible.’ By the way, $10,000 is not enough. I pushed him, and he decided to do $20,000 for folks who are Pell Grant eligible.
There could not be a more stark contrast on the matter of competence and the matter of character, and he fails on both accounts, i am running against someone who is not a serious person. But here is the danger: Because he's not a serious person, there may be a temptation among some not to take the race seriously. Herschel Walker is not to be taken seriously, but this race is to be taken seriously.
This is not a race about Democrat and Republican. It's not a race of right vs. left. Fundamentally, this is a race, right or wrong, and who's right for Georgia and who's clearly wrong for Georgia, this race is about competence, and it's about character. When it comes to that, the choice could not be more clear between me and Herschel Walker.
I think that the issue that we're dealing with right now is that we have a contrast between somebody who believes in a woman's right to choose, who believes that a patient's room is too small and cramped a space for the woman, her doctor and the United States government, and somebody who wants a nationwide ban with no exceptions, so that's the extreme we're dealing with, and that's what I'm focused on. There are plenty of politicians piling into patients' rooms. I have no intention of joining them.
Listen, we can, and we must focus on the economy and a woman's right to choose at the same time. Those things are not mutually exclusive, and that's why you need a serious person in the Senate, because the range of issues that we deal with in any given day are serious. They have far-reaching implications for hard-working families, and this race is about whose ready to do that job.
It wasn’t the people or workers of GA who crafted SB 202—it was politicians seeking to retain power at the expense of Georgians' voices. And today’s decision by @MLB is the unfortunate consequence of these politicians’ actions, i hope businesses, athletes entertainers can protest this unjust law not by leaving GA, but by coming here fighting voter suppression head on with the community.
We are witnessing right now a massive and unabashed assault on voting rights unlike anything we have seen since the Jim Crow era. This is Jim Crow in new clothes, since the January election, some 250 voter suppression bills have been introduced by state legislatures all across the country – from Georgia to Arizona, from New Hampshire to Florida – [all] using the Big Lie of voter fraud as a pretext for voter suppression.
All of these voter suppression laws saying we've got to have voter ID laws because if we don't they might vote twice. Are you kidding? Have you been in America these last several years? It's hard enough to get people to vote once, let alone twice, in a moment when they’re trying to make voting harder and harder — trying to cut down early voting, because they saw your strength. Dealing with these voter ID laws, this is not about voter verification, this is about voter suppression. They’re still playing the same games.
May this be the class that’s going to set new standards for how we deliver care people and reach people who have been traditionally marginalized and forgotten about in our health care system making sure everyone has great access to health care no matter what they look like, where they live, or how much money they have.
We have to have a path that holds police officers accountable, the same way you hold people and other professionals in other professions accountable. And so, I'm open to how we get there, but we've got to get something passed. And we got to hold police officers accountable. Black people have to know that they can engage law enforcement, and that people can not commit acts of abuse against them with impunity.
You must know that this is a glimpse of God's vision of a more inclusive humanity that embraces all of God's children. I'm just grateful to be a part of this. I'm just grateful because I just want to serve, I just want to be a vessel, I just want to be an instrument, I just want to be a prism of God's glory so that God's glory can shine through me.
He created a lot of trouble for himself in the process. Telling the truth will get you in trouble, yet there can be no transformation without truth, we can not and we will not change until we confront or are confronted by the sickness of our own situation. That applies to individuals, that applies to institutions, that applies to nations.
If it is true that a man who has dominated the news and poisoned the discussion for months needs to repent, then it is doubly true that a nation that can produce such a man and make his vitriol go viral needs to repent, no matter what happens next month, more than a third of the nation that would go along with this, is reason to be afraid. America needs to repent for its worship of Whiteness, on full display this season.
