But now that you won't be seeing it anymore I'll have to use words to tell you. I've never loved anyone the way I've loved you and I never will again. You are my brightest star, my knight in shining leather, my hero.

Clark Kent:
I'm here to *help* you.

Mad Harriet:
No one here needs saving except you.

Granny Goodness:
Do you know, I've been always been able to tell an abandoned soul when I see one. It's a gift.

Tess Mercer:
Do the girls come here as - as babies?

Granny Goodness:

Granny Goodness:
None of my girls ever leave me. I lost your broken soul once. Trust me, I'm not going to let you go again. I have plans for you, Tess. You will be my most valuable soldier in the upcoming war whether you want to be or not.

Clark Kent:
You don't have to do this. I can get you out of here. Help your younger sisters find real homes!

Mad Harriet:
No one could ever love us as much as Granny.

Clark Kent:
She controls you. That's not love.

Mad Harriet:

Clark Kent:
Someone who loves you doesn't make you forget who you are and where you came from.

When my Mom was dying, she tried to protect me, too. And I love her, but she was wrong. I will never get to hold her again. But you - you can still be there for Clark - I mean, Kal-El. Your son needs a father who believes in him. I-I wish I knowing that I loved him was enough. But Clark Kent can't fully hear it with the ghost of your disappointment haunting him. [waits for a response from Jor-El, nothing]

Lois Lane:
Really? Nothing? You know, you may not care about anybody else but yourself, but Clark does. And you're not 1/10 the Kryptonian he is. He's lucky to be rid of you!

Tess Mercer:
Thanks. I thought I could handle that on my own. I'm so used to looking after myself.

Clark Kent:
You're a part of my team now. I wasn't gonna abandon you.

Lara:
My son, I only had the joy for knowing you a few weeks. I wish I could be with you always to guide you and protect you.

Jor-El:
We don't have much time.

Lara:
My dearest Kal-El, our love will always be with you. I can already see you carry within your father's independent spirit.

Desaad:

Gordon Godfrey:

Desaad:

Granny Goodness:

Yes *and* no. Yes, I think your mother is still watching over you, and, no, I don't think you're crazy.

Lois Lane:
She didn't want me to see her because she was afraid she would look weak. I think she felt like she had failed me by leaving. Clark, she's the bravest person I know.

Clark Kent:
Maybe our parents thought that their mistakes would be some sort of burden on us.

Lois Lane:
I would have liked to said goodbye. I think I could have handled it.

Clark Kent:
Maybe they couldn't. I used to think Jor-El was this strong, unshakable force, kind of like I thought I was supposed to be.

Lois Lane:
I don't think he's the easiest guy to read, being that he's an ice fortress and all. But there's part of him that's very human.

Clark Kent:
Yeah. He blames himself for losing our home. All the weight I thought I had on my shoulders, he was carrying something so much heavier.

Lois Lane:
And he didn't want you to carry it with him.

Clark Kent:
I'm glad that you got to see him. Thank you for showing me that.

Lois Lane:
Thank my Mom.

Clark Kent:
Why don't you let me take you out? It's power-ballad night at the Ace of Clubs.

Lois Lane:

Stargirl:
If Dr. Fate says he's okay, that means he's okay, right?

Stargirl:
Sylvester wanted to bring together a new Justice Society - One with the surviving members and us new kids.

Hawkman:
It wouldn't have worked, Courtney. People never learn. This generation will make the same mistakes the last one did like the one before that. Obvious by how you've skipped your homework, you don't even know who we are.

Clark Kent:
You don't who we are either. But none of us here are the bad guys.

[an arrow is shot into the JSA's framed picture, Oliver enters the Brownstone]

Oliver Queen:
You sure about that, Clark? The winged warrior here threw me through a window.

Hawkman:
I hope I didn't make you cry.

Oliver Queen:
Drop the mace, Conan.

Hawkman:

Oliver Queen:
Bring it, Big Bird. Just for the record, you started it.

Hawkman:
I'll finish it.

Carter Hall:
All we want is justice.

Oliver Queen:
Justice? Well, everything we've heard about you guys is a little blurry when it comes to justice.

Courtney Whitmore:
You mean what you've *read*.

Oliver Queen:
Do you know who you're working with here? These old men have criminal records longer than that staff of yours.

Courtney Whitmore:
They made those up.

Carter Hall:
It's none of their business.

John Jones:
With all due respect, we're making it our business. Even when I had the power to leave Earth, I chose not to. For one reason - Hope. Hope for the future. Humanity's capacity for violence is great, but their capacity for hope is greater than any other I've ever encountered.

Oliver Queen:
Frosty's kid going after you for putting dear old in traction, right? But why now? It's been decades.

Hawkman:
Because revenge is a dish best served cold.

Oliver Queen:
We're telling jokes now?

Dr. Fate:
The hope for tomorrow that your alien friend spoke of - you are that hope. I have seen it.

Clark Kent:
Because you see the future?

Dr. Fate:
I see everyone's fate but my own. Sometimes that scares me. But when I see the future of someone such as yourself, I believe in tomorrow again.

Clark Kent:
When you saw my fate, what did you see?

Dr. Fate:
You will lead this generation as Hawkman once lead ours.

Clark Kent:
You sound like a group I met from the future. They hinted at my destiny, but they were as vague as you are.

Dr. Fate:
Then let me be specific. Although Lex Luthor is your ultimate opponent, you will triumph over him.

Clark Kent:
Lex? Lex is dead.

Dr. Fate:
And when you show yourself to the world, it will be a different age than ours, Clark. A silver age of heroism that will start when they look up into the sky at you with hope for tomorrow. You will have everyone to embrace it.

Lois Lane:
Careful, Lois. This is the part where the doomed girl runs into the guy with the hockey mask.

Amanda Waller:
I grew up in Chicago, Icicle. The cold doesn't bother me.

Oliver Queen:
You know, you really got to work on your landings.

Hawkman:
It would have been a lot smoother if you hadn't thrown up.

Oliver Queen:
Send me your dry-cleaning bill.

Hawkman:

Carter Hall:
You have the capacity to break the chains that are holding you down, Clark. And when you do, what Doctor Fate envisioned will come to pass. You will soar higher than any one of us.

Courtney Whitmore:
So, what do you call your team anyway?

Clark Kent:
A work in progress.

Oliver Queen:
I, uh, I thought I'd stop and see if anyone's hungry.

John Jones:
I could use some dinner. Chloe?

Chloe Sullivan:
Uh, sure. You're buying Mr. Queen.

John Jones:
Don't look at me. I'm living off a policeman's salary.

Oliver Queen:
Ah, fine. Dessert's on you.

John Jones:
On Mars, we never had dessert, but I have grown especially fond of cookies.

Sylvester Pemperton:

Chloe Sullivan:
Watchtower?

Sylvester Pemperton:
Technology today makes hiding a whole lot harder, Miss Sullivan. When someone like you reaches out and plugs into so many outlets, someone else is bound to pull out one of those cords and follow it back to the source. You're lucky a friend did it first.

Chloe Sullivan:
Friends? Friends don't sneak up on each other in a dark alley.

Oliver Queen:
Is that *my* e-mail? Chloe, I'll let you know that those messages between me and Canary were purely platonic.

Green Arrow:
Red, white, and blue. Loud and proud to be an American. Nice.

Stargirl:
Well, at least I'm proud of something other than myself.

Green Arrow:
What's that supposed to mean?

Stargirl:
I know what kind of hero you are, Green Arrow.

Green Arrow:
Is the masked cheerleader really talking down to me?

Icicle:

[she attacks Icicle with light staff]

Why did they have to team us up together?

I asked them to so I can keep you in line.

Hawkman:
Think of me as your parole officer but with a mace.

John Jones:
I appreciate the assist.

Dr. Fate:
I'm interested in you. You are not a human, but you are forced to be.

John Jones:
I used to have special abilities like Clark.

Dr. Fate:
But you sacrificed them to save Clark Kent. You see what I see in Clark Kent but without the aid of the helmet of Nabu. Its magic reveals the fates of people around me. I look into the window of the future and witness might be. But, eventually, it became too much. I saw too much. Before your people were destroyed, did you have a wife, John?

John Jones:
And a daughter.

Dr. Fate:
You miss your family as do I.

John Jones:
We're too late. He's already been here.

Dr. Fate:
It is not your fate to die this day, Martian.

[he restores John's abilities]

Icicle:
I killed you.

John Jones:
I'm Mars' sole survivor. There's a reason for that.

Carter Hall:
You're not like the others, are you, Clark? Kids who are in it for the thrills or because they have a chip on their shoulder. You don't do this for glory or vengeance.

Clark Kent:
I guess not.

Carter Hall:
Your team is better than I thought, too. Even I have to admit, Green Arrow has pretty good aim.

Clark Kent:
We're not a team. Not like yours.

Carter Hall:
Why? Because of you?

Clark Kent:
They're the best friends that I have, Carter, but I don't know if we'll ever be what the J.S.A. was.

Carter Hall:
You have to trust them.

Clark Kent:
I do.

Carter Hall:
You have to remember they're people, too. They'll make mistakes. We all do. We all have to keep trying. Isn't that what you said?

Chloe Sullivan:
If it isn't my favorite Martian. Looks like you're enjoying the return of your powers.

John Jones:
At a cost. Dr. Fate's final act was to restore my Martian abilities instead of saving his own life.

Chloe Sullivan:
What happens with the helmet now?

John Jones:
According to Hawkman, someone worthy will be drawn to it. They'll become the next Dr. Fate.

Chloe Sullivan:
What's next for you?

John Jones:
My time as a detective has allowed me to protect humans on a very personal and individual level. I've enjoyed that. So I will be able to protect and serve, using every tool I've got.

Chloe Sullivan:
Me too.

John Jones:
Dr. Fate was inundated with a constant flow of visions and information, but there is a limit to how much knowledge someone can have. It drove him to the edge of sanity, and he fell off. I don't need my telepathy to know you run that risk yourself.

Chloe Sullivan:
The golden helmet possessed by ancient spirits and the Watchtower are two entirely different things. I can handle it.

John Jones:
[holds Chloe's hand] I only say because I care. You and Clark, Oliver. You're my family here.

Dr. Fate:
I see your fate, Lois Lane. You are the one he will need. He is the one you will need.

Kent Nelson:
Please, Nabu, don't whisper too loudly. Don't show me what can be or not be. Fate is a fickle thing.

Courtney Whitmore:
Carter, please. There's over a dozen members of the Justice Society still out there. Jay, Ted, Alan. If we didn't team up and stop the Icicle, he'll go after them next.

Clark Kent:
It's obvious you still care about this team. If you didn't, you wouldn't have kept watch over all of this.

Carter Hall:
This is a temporary alliance.

Clark Kent:
Do you have any idea where we can find Icicle?

Chloe Sullivan:
[enters the Brownstone] I've got one or two. Unless this is costumes only.

Carter Hall:
Who's this, your secretary?

John Jones:
Our eyes and ears.

Lois Lane:
Nice helmet.

Dr. Fate:
Thank you.

Brainiac:
[to Jor-El] Your son is destined to fail. Soon, a new age will dawn on Earth - an age of power and strength and the fall of the House of El. Doomsday is coming.

Clark Kent:
I know that we defeated Brainiac, but we may have another problem. When Chloe was losing her memory, she kept seeing the Kryptonian symbol for doom in her mind.

Jor-El:
The symbol for doom represents the ultimate destroyer. A Kryptonian creature bred for a single purpose - to kill. It adapts and evolves to any attack. It is virtually unstoppable. And it appears it's made its way to Earth.

Clark Kent:
So Brainaic was trying to contact this thing using Chloe as a vessel.

Jor-El:
If that is true, then it is likely the creature will find her soon.

Clark Kent:
I don't care how powerful it is. I'll take it on, like I have everything else.

Jor-El:
I am here for you, as well, my son.

Clark Kent:
Thank you... father.

Jor-El:
Welcome home, my son.

Clark Kent:
Home? I wanted to see it that way, Jor-El. I wanted to learn more about my family, about my destiny. And then you tore it all away.

Jor-El:
I programmed the fortress to remove your powers and self-destruct if you became a danger to the planet.

Clark Kent:
When you sent me here, you had no way of knowing how I would use my abilities. You trusted me. When I betrayed that trust, you were willing to sacrifice your only son to save this planet. But now I know what it truly means to protect people, not just my family and friends.

Jor-El:
You've made great progress my son.

Clark Kent:
One thing needs to change. You call me your son, but you treat me like your enemy. I think it's time you stop punishing me and start trusting me again.

Jor-El:
You've grown up, Kal-El. Your trails have matured you.

Clark Kent:
My trails aren't over, Jor-El. Brainiac was not destroyed. He managed to infect one of my friends, and how he's taken her over. I need your help.

Jor-El:
I can translate the Kryptonian code corrupting your friend's mine back into human memories, however, the being you call "Brainiac" is highly unpredictable. It poses a tremendous threat to all of us. There is no way of knowing what the outcome will be. Are you willing to take that risk?

Clark Kent:
This is the symbol for doom.

Chloe Sullivan:
You think Brainiac is sending me a message?

Clark Kent:
Whatever he's doing, Chloe, we need to stop it. Jor-El created Brainiac. When Kara lost her memory, Jor-El restored it. If I take the crystal to the Arctic and rebuild the Fortress, Jor-El might be able to help *you*, too.

Chloe Sullivan:
Or he could strip you of your powers or drop an ice castle on you.

Clark Kent:
It doesn't matter, Chloe. I *have* to do this.

Chloe Sullivan:
And I have to be honest with you, Clark. This is exactly why I didn't tell you what was happening with me - because I knew that you would just fly off without thinking about any of the consequences. Clark, last time you handled this crystal, it zapped you to the Phantom Zone. Now, for all we know, Lex could have sent this to you. I mean, he could still trying to control you from wherever he is.

Clark Kent:
Chloe, none of this would have happened if you hadn't tried to protect me. Everyone who knows about my secret, I watched them either go away or die - my Dad, Pete... Lana, Lionel, even Lex. Chloe, I'm not going to let my secret destroy your life, too.

Chloe Sullivan:
The night I saw you catch that car with your bare hands, it changed my life - for the better. Clark, thanks to you, I've actually made an impact on the world. I wouldn't trade that for anything.

[Chloe has a flashback to the day she met Clark in middle school. They are up in Clark's loft]

Young Chloe Sullivan:
[about Clark's telescope] Wow, sweet setup, Clark. Spend your night spying on any unsuspecting neighbors?

Young Clark Kent:
No, I like... looking at the stars.

Young Chloe Sullivan:
I guess you truly are a gentleman farmer. Emerson and Thoreau have nothing on you!... I spend way too much of my time reading.

Young Clark Kent:
Actually, I love reading. I don't have that much time to make a lot of friends. My dad keeps me pretty busy with chores.

Young Chloe Sullivan:
My mom left me when I was really young. After that, I was afraid to make friends, because... I just thought they'd all end up leaving too. So I buried my nose in books. Although, I think I lost one of my favorites when we moved. Tales of the Weird and Unexplained. Something tells me I won't find much of the weird or unexplained here in Norman Rockwell's neighborhood. [Clark superspeeds away behind Chloe's back, and comes back with the book Chloe mentioned]

Young Clark Kent:
Smallville's more than just dairy cows. We have a pretty good public library. [Chloe sees it and smiles, and then she goes over to Clark and gives him a brief kiss] What was that for?

Young Chloe Sullivan:
I know you've been thinking about it all day. So I figured we'd just get it out of the way and be friends.

Clark Kent:
You've been the best friend and ally I could have had, Chloe. The truth is you saved me more than I ever could have saved you. I'm sorry to go back to hiding the truth from you. But the best way that I know to protect you, is to let you go.

Wedding Planner:
Mr. Luthor. I would think quick decision-making would be your forte.

Lex Luthor:
That's why I made the quick decision to put Helen in charge of the wedding.

Chloe Sullivan:
Sorry, Clark, when you turned in your press pass, you relinquished all of your computer privileges. I don't mean to be hall monitor, but it is school policy.

Clark Kent:
I'm trying to help Lana.

Chloe Sullivan:

She's being haunted by a girl who died six years ago.

Oh, my God, Clark! This guy's blog gets, like, 10,000 hits a day. One post, and all of sudden you're everyone's Wonder Boy.

Clark Kent:
Can you track this Warrior Angel comic to its owner?

Chloe Sullivan:

Actually, exactly the opposite. You should see the look in his eyes when he's holding that baby. It's like he's completely at ease. Not to mention he's a natural born baby burper.

Clark Kent:
[entering] I've got the spit-up stains to prove it.

Lana Lang:
Clark, things like this don't just happen. There's a reason he survived and that someone like you found him.

Clark Kent:
We found him.

Lana Lang:
[flipping through "The Velveteen Rabbit"] This was his favorite book.

Clark Kent:
Really?

Lana Lang:
Yeah.

It was my favorite book when I was a kid. I, um... I used to pretend that I was the rabbit. That I was just like him, and my parents had brought me to life with their love.

Lana Lang:
My only hope is that Evan felt that way about us.

I'm sure Evan knew that.

Clark Kent:
All the times that I've run off or disappeared, or almost died, how did you guys deal with that?

Jonathan Kent:
Well, it isn't easy, Clark, but it comes with the territory. You see, every parent's greatest fear is that one day, they will lose their child forever.

Clark Kent:
Seems like raising a kid's the toughest job in the world.

Martha Kent:
It's also the most rewarding.

Jonathan Kent:
There is nothing quite like watching your son grow up into a young man you can be proud of.

Clark Kent:

Kara:

Lex Luthor:

Kara:

Brainiac:
This is a simple matter of self-preservation. When I couldn't kill you, I knew I had to control you.

Clark Kent:

Brainiac:

Lex Luthor:
I must admit, Clark. This is a big step up from the barn.

Clark Kent:

Lex Luthor:
For the first time, I think I do. You see, you live among us as a mild-mannered farm boy. But secretly, you're a strange visitor from another planet, plotting our demise.

Clark Kent:
That's not what I'm doing at all.

Lex Luthor:

[Lex walks over to the console]

Clark Kent:

Lex Luthor:

Clark Kent:

[Lex plugs the Orb onto the console. The Fortress begins collapsing as Clark falls to his feet. Lex kneels down to him]

Lex Luthor:
I loved you like a brother, Clark. But it has to end this way. I'm sorry.

Chloe Sullivan:
[pulls kryptonite on Kara] Why isn't it working?

Kara:
Check the expiration date?

Chloe Sullivan:
Kara, there's something seriously wrong with you. It was the only way...

Kara:
You lied to me. Clark's not here.

[Chloe tries to run out the door, Kara shuts it and transforms back into Brainiac]

Chloe Sullivan:
Oh, God.

Brainiac:
I'm impressed. I wouldn't have thought a member of your weak-willed species especially a friend of Kal-El's could ever use kryptonite against his cousin.

Chloe Sullivan:
Let me go.

Brainiac:
I remember you. Always sticking your pretty little head where it doesn't belong.

[Brainiac proceeds to pierce her head with his finger tendrils. Chloe unleashes her healing powers in defense, weakening him]

Brainiac:
What the hell are you?

Jimmy Olsen:
Clark, Chloe was just arrested.

Clark Kent:
What?

Jimmy Olsen:
Her habitual hacking caught Uncle Sam's eye. So I - I kind of went to Lex for help. Now he's holding it over my head.

Clark Kent:
You made a deal with Lex Luthor?

Jimmy Olsen:
Look, I told him to get another lap dog, Clark. But then he just - He put her back on their "most wanted" list. She went from life support to life without parole in less than a day.

Jimmy Olsen:
Look, Lex, I would really like to help, but lying, it's just, uh, you know, it's not my thing. It's eating me up. It's actually... it's making my stomach hurt.

Lex Luthor:
Well it's never too late to learn a new skill.

Lois Lane:
Seriously Clark, don't you think you're destined for greater things in life than working on a farm?

Clark Kent:
Even if I wanted the job, Lois, I'd never work for Lex Luthor.

Lois Lane:
Okay. Then why were you such great friends with the guy? Looking into Lex's past, I found out how far you two go back. You're nothing alike. Why were you so close for so long?

Clark Kent:
Sometimes, people don't turn out to be what you thought they were. Lois, if you continue working for Lex, promise me you'll be careful.

Lois Lane:
[scoffs] You know, if I didn't know any better, Smallville, I'd think you were worried about me.

Chloe Sullivan:
Hey. I think it's time you switch into Super Clark mode now.

Clark Kent:
Super Clark?

Chloe Sullivan:
I know you run faster than a speeding bullet, Clark. Take me along for the ride.

Martha Kent:
[Looking at the Kent farmhouse with a gaping hole in it from where the meteor struck the house] Our home...

Jonathan Kent:
It's just wood and plaster, Martha. A house can always be rebuilt.

Martha Kent:
I guess you're right.

Jonathan Kent:
[Clark walks toward his mom and dad] But it does help to have a one-man construction team as a son.

Martha Kent:
Hi.

Clark Kent:
Hi.

Jonathan Kent:
[after observing a short pause, glad to be together again] Don't worry, Clark, things will be back to normal soon enough.

Clark Kent:
Actually, things will be a lot more normal around here than you think.

[pauses to prepare himself]

Clark Kent:
My abilities are gone.

Martha Kent:
[In shock] How?

Clark Kent:
Jor-El took them. But, I'm not sure it's such a bad thing. All I've ever wanted is to be normal, and now, finally, I am.

Martha Kent:
It is different. You can get hurt now, you're vulnerable.

Clark Kent:
Isn't that what it means to be human?

Jonathan Kent:
No, I can't believe Jor-El would have given up on you that easily.

Clark Kent:
I took care of the danger he warned me about, and if losing my abilities is the consequence then I think he's done with me.

[Walks to Jonathan and Martha and stands beside them]

Clark Kent:
Look, none of that matters now. I'm ready to take a step to the future. We'll start by rebuilding this house, one board at a time.

Clark Kent:
[Super-speeds into Lex's study and Nam-Ek and Aethyr turn to face him] I heard you were looking for me. I'm Kal-El.

Nam-Ek:
At last.

Clark Kent:
Who are you?

Aethyr:
The last survivors of Krypton.

Clark Kent:
What do you want?

Nam-Ek:
We want you to join with us, Kal-El, and help us make this savage land our utopia.

Clark Kent:
I saw what you did at the hospital. It's not utopia. It's MURDER.

Nam-Ek:
The few must be sacrificed for the sake of the many.

Clark Kent:
Then sacrifice me, because I'm not going to let you kill anyone else.

Aethyr:
If that is your decision. So be it, Kal-El.

[Aethyr releases the key to the Phantom Zone on Clark]

Clark Kent:
[inside the Fortress of Solitude] I thought Krypton was destroyed.

Jor-El:
It was, but here in your Fortress of Solitude, the geography of our planet has been replicated for your training.

Clark Kent:
I know there's a lot I can learn from you, but I have to get home. That's where I'm needed.

Jor-El:
The meteor shower is only the precursor. A dark force from Krypton has been awakened, Kal-El, and its sights have been set on Earth.

Clark Kent:
What do you want me to do?

[a massive column of energy surrounds Clark with images of Krypton's history]

Jor-El:
You must do as I tell you. Study with diligence, for that is the only way to save this planet.

Chloe Sullivan:
[to Clark] I want you to know, I'll never be the iceberg to your Titanic, and your secret will never ever leave my lips. No matter what.

Clark Kent:
How'd you get that frog in your throat?

Lois Lane:
That's what happens when you get a neck massage form Barbie the Barbarian. Doctor says I shouldn't talk too much.

Clark Kent:
Oh, gee. That's too bad.

Lois Lane:
Don't get your hopes up, Smallville. It's not permanent.

Jor-El:
Kal-El, you have traveled far. One journey has ended. A new journey is about to begin. Welcome, my son.

Chloe Sullivan:
I wonder who's more freaked out right now. Me, knowing I'm in a hospital where they get their medicine via dogsled... Or you, finally finding out I know your secret.

Clark Kent:

Chloe Sullivan:
I guess I've always had my suspicions. The quick exits, the miraculous recoveries, the lame excuses. But I think when I saw you catch a car like it was a beach ball, that kind of confirmed everything.

Clark Kent:

Chloe Sullivan:
I figured if you wanted to tell me you were part of the superpowered persuasion, you would when you were ready. On your teams, not mine.

Clark Kent:

Chloe Sullivan:

[looks up to Lana revealing the cataracts in his blank eyes]

[he gets up and walks to Lex's safe full of Kryptonite laced artifacts]

[running around the ruins of the farmhouse] MOM! DAD!

Lex Luthor:
[enters] Clark. Thank God you're okay.

Clark Kent:
Where's my mom and dad?

Lex Luthor:
At the hospital. Your mom has a concussion and a broken leg but she's gonna be fine.

Clark Kent:
What about Lana?

Lex Luthor:
Lana's safe. It's Chloe I'm worried about. She was with me in the cave when the meteors hit and I was knocked unconscious and when I came to she was gone.

Clark Kent:
She must have escaped while you were unconscious.

Lex Luthor:
Or someone helped her out.

Clark Kent:
Lex, how could I've...

Lex Luthor:
When I was down in the cave there was a light brighter than anything I've ever seen... and I could've sworn I saw you standing right in its epicenter.

Clark Kent:
I was nowhere near those caves.

Lex Luthor:
If you weren't down in the caves, where have you been?

Clark Kent:
My parents insisted I get a head start. I got a ride on one of the military vans.

Lex Luthor:
Why do I get this nagging feeling your being less than honest with me?

Clark Kent:
I have no idea.

Lex Luthor:

[Turns his back on Lex]

Jonathan Kent:
[Martha wakes up in the hospital] Well, Martha Kent, if you were trying to scare me, you did one heck of a job. For a minute there, I thought I lost you.

Martha Kent:
Hmm. I guess I found my way back.

Lois Lane:
Mrs. Kent. I have to you say look a whole lot better without a china cabinet on your back.

Oliver Queen:
This is funny. You know, the way Lois talked about you, I thought you were gonna be a little bit more of a...

Clark Kent:

Lois Lane:
Well, you're not exactly jumping the velvet ropes at nightclubs, so...

Clark Kent:
It's really nice to see that Lois has found someone who can overlook her personality.

Oliver Queen:
Oh, don't worry about it, Clark. If I lived under the same roof with such a beautiful woman, I probably would've mask my feelings in sarcasm, too.

The Green Arrow:

Tess Mercer:

I can't believe they'd risked everything coming out to defend me.

Chloe Sullivan:

Clark Kent:
But I don't think a couple hundred testimonials will be enough to change the vote.

Chloe Sullivan:
Try a couple hundred thousand... all of them willing to step out for you. They just needed a place to be heard.

I want to be the man that you made that suit for.

Martha Kent:

Well, when I saw those people willing to defend me, it was inspiring. It got me to thinking that, in order for The Blur to be a true beacon of hope, maybe people need to see my face, too. I've been to the future, and I saw the hero that I will become to save the city. But I also saw me - I mean... Clark Kent - disguised behind glasses and a bad haircut.

Martha Kent:
Well, I'm sure you still looked very handsome.

Clark Kent:
Mom, I don't see how I can treat Clark Kent as a disguise. I mean, you and Dad raised me to be who I am right now - the real Clark Kent.

What's real is your strength and integrity and compassion. As long as you remain honest to those things, it doesn't matter what you wear or what name you go by, because... you'll always be my son.

John Jones:
Your father would be proud. He did everything he could to prepare you, but bravery... is not something you can learn.

Does that mean you're happy you left?

Lana Lang:
It was the hardest decision I have ever had to make. But I'm glad that I finally had the guts to do it. [silence between the two former lovers] I would have died before I admitted this, but I used to sit on my front porch and look across the field at this barn, imagining a summer wedding here. Okay, come on. [pulls Lois off her perch] What I think Lois is trying to say, is that you can't predict when you will find that special someone. And Jimmy is, without a doubt that special someone for Chloe. I've known Chloe since the 8th grade and we've been through a lot together. Lois Lane:
[wakes up hungover on Clark's couch wearing his football jersey] Smallville?

Clark Kent:
[enters the room loading up a glass of water with alka seltzer] Good afternoon, Lois. I thought you might need one of these.

[looks at the disarray of the room especialy the random articles of clothing laying about before looking at Clark] Please tell me we didn't...

[At first Clark looks Lois in confusion but then it dawns on him what she is talking about]

Clark Kent:
[chuckles] You're hysterical when you're hungover, Lois. Don't worry you got changed all by yourself. In the middle of the kitchen for like an hour.

Lois Lane:
[attempts to take a sip of her drink but grimaces and puts it down] I take it I took a little drive on the porcelain highway.

Clark Kent:
It was more like a cross-country trip.

Clark Kent:
[to Lois, about taking the elevator instead of stairs] Come on. Statistically, this is the safer way to travel.

Chloe Sullivan:
I like where this going, Romeo, but you might want to put on some softer music.

Oliver Queen:
This not a booty call.

Oliver Queen:
Clark saw a future that we all want to run away from. Said Tess saw the same future. Maybe she wants to take us there.

Chloe Sullivan:

All right. [Lana picks a card. Clark clears his throat while using his X-ray vision to see what card she is holding]

Clark Kent:
Three of hearts.

Lana Lang:
[laughs] Full of surprises.

Martha Kent:
So you would give us the latest farming equipment and technology?

Jonathan Kent:
All in exchange for our independence.

Lex Luthor:
My influence would be minimal, but existing, yeah. It's a partnership.

Jonathan Kent:
We could get a loan.

Lex Luthor:
Or you could allow me to help you get to the point where you never need someone like me again.

Martha Kent:
I'll admit, it looks generous.

Lex Luthor:
It is.

Jonathan Kent:
Which begs the question what does Lex Luthor get out of all this?

Lex Luthor:
I believe there's profit to be made. I'm not exactly in the charity business.

Jonathan Kent:
Like father, like son.

Lex Luthor:
Take some time to think about it. I'm sure you'll see the benefits outweigh your other options.

Lex Luthor:
Your farm's drowning in debt; we both know it. All I'm trying to do is offer you a hand, but you keep slapping it away.

Jonathan Kent:
I learned a long time ago, from a man much smarter than myself, that you need to solve your own problems.

Lex Luthor:

Martha Kent:

Lex Luthor:
It's a matter of public record. I'm making a business offer; I had to do my due diligence.

Jonathan Kent:
Why are you so interested in our family, Lex?

Lex Luthor:
Your son brought me back from the dead, Mr. Kent. When he reached in and pulled me out, he gave me a new life. Your father put his family's future over his own pride. Are you willing to do that?

Lex Luthor:
Morning. I heard you took out a bank loan today.

Jonathan Kent:
Did you?

Lex Luthor:
After our conversation the other night, I was, frankly, surprised. You despise me that much?

Jonathan Kent:
Believe it or not, Lex, some things actually have nothing to do with you. I decided to bet on my family.

Lex Luthor:
You're betting with Clark's future. I'm just trying to ensure it.

Jonathan Kent:
Yeah, well, so am I.

Lex Luthor:
With the bank? They'll kill you with interest while waiting for you to fail.

Jonathan Kent:
At least with the bank, I know where I stand.

Lex Luthor:
I know you don't believe me, but I genuinely want to help you. When you change your mind, my offer still stands.

Lex Luthor:

Martha Kent:

Lex Luthor:

Jonathan Kent:
To put it mildly.

Lex Luthor:
The word "restraint" doesn't exist in my father's vocabulary.

Martha Kent:

[Lex doesn't respond; Jonathan realizes why they're there]

Jonathan Kent:
I think we should go.

Martha Kent:
Wait, wait, Jonathan. Just because no one else came...

Jonathan Kent:
That is if anyone else was even invited.

Martha Kent:
Oh, I don't think Lex would...

Lex Luthor:
Actually, I would. I did. But only because I knew you wouldn't have come otherwise. I know your farm's in trouble, Mr. Kent. Small town.

Jonathan Kent:
So you thought you would just take advantage of my family's problem?

Lex Luthor:
No. I thought I could help.

Clark Kent:
[arriving home, all smiles] Hello, citizens.

Martha Kent:
I'm not familiar with this child. Where's the moody one? Lives upstairs, runs real fast?

Clark Kent:
Oh, he's going on a date tonight. Not a "date" date, but to a concert.

Jonathan Kent:
Well, just who might this "not a date" date be with?

Clark Kent:
Lana Lang. Lex hooked me up with a couple of serious tickets and his limo.

Jonathan Kent:
[pointedly to Martha] Oh, he did.

Clark Kent:
It's okay if I go, right?

Jonathan Kent:
Well, I guess Lex Luthor has worked out all of our evenings for us.

Martha Kent:
Clark? Isn't Lana still going out with Whitney?

Clark Kent:
She's not married, mom.

Martha Kent:
It's bad enough you ride that motorcycle. But why do you have to repair it in the house?

Jonathan Kent:
'Cause if I didn't, you'd never have any reason to be angry with me.

[Kara and Clark are flying/drifting in the sky]

Clark Kent:
How are you doing this?

Kara:
You're doing it, too.

Clark Kent:
I can't fly...

Kara:
Not yet. This is just the beginning, Kal-El. You have no idea how powerful you'll become.

Lex Luthor:
Clark, thanks for showing up. It means a lot to me.

Clark Kent:
I didn't come here for you, Lex. I came here because it's the right thing to do. This friendship is over.

Clark Kent:
You told me you stopped investigating me.

Lex Luthor:

Clark Kent:
You did? Then what is this?

Lex Luthor:
I understand how you could think this is all about you... but, in fact, it's about me.

Clark Kent:

Lex Luthor:
So much of my own life I can't explain. I survived countless brushes with death, and it all started with this car crash. If I'm guilty of anything, it's that I've inherited my father's eccentric curiosity for the unexplained.

Clark Kent:

Jor-El:

Clark Kent:

[Kara disappears in a flash of light]

Jonathan Kent:

Jor-El:
She served her purpose as has Jonathan Kent.

[a beam of light shoots from the cave wall and grips Jonathan around the neck]

Clark Kent:
Dad! Leave my father alone!

Jor-El:
Come forward, or he will die. Come to me, Kal-El.

Jonathan Kent:
Clark, I've lived a full life, son. Jor-El can do whatever he wants to do me, as long you're free.

Clark Kent:
I'll never be free.

Jonathan Kent:
Clark! No!

[Clark is whisked away into the cave's wall; Jonathan falls the ground unconscious]

Martha Kent:
[learning of Jonathan's promise to Jor-El] What have you invited into our lives?

Jonathan Kent:
Martha, I... I honestly don't believe I had another choice.

Martha Kent:
How could you have made a decision like that about our son without talking to me?

Jonathan Kent:
It was the only way that I could get him back!

Martha Kent:
Why would you keep it a secret?

Jonathan Kent:
Because I didn't want you to have to wait for the rest of your life worrying about something that might not ever come to pass.

Martha Kent:
Do you really think Jor-El will ever give up on Clark?

Jonathan Kent:
I can't just sit idly by while he tries to take away our son.

Martha Kent:
Well, we might not have a choice. That girl is more powerful than Clark!

Lana Lang:
Lex.

Lex Luthor:
I just wanted to say bon voyage.

Lana Lang:
Shouldn't you be at the couthouse?

Lex Luthor:
My father can wait. Lana, I couldn't let the last person you saw from Smallville to be the shuttle driver looking for his tip.

Lana Lang:
Lex, um... I can't thank you enough for everything that you've done for me.

Lex Luthor:
Yeah, it's pretty clear your destiny lies far beyond the Smallville city limits. I'm just trying to help you get there.

Lana Lang:
I don't know what I did to deserve such a great friend. But I'm glad that you came into my life.

Lex Luthor:
Johns Hopkins, the Mayo Clinic. My father's knocked on the door of every major medical institution in the Western world and was sent home each time without a cure.

Chloe Sullivan:
I'm sensing you're having second thoughts. Lex, I understand if you want to back out. I mean, he needs to be punished for what he did, but he's still your father, and he's dying.

Lex Luthor:
Yeah. And he's gonna draw his last breath in prison, not the VIP suite at Metropolis General. But only you're still willing to go through with this.

Chloe Sullivan:
I don't think I like the sound of this.

Lex Luthor:
Chloe, a dying man has little to lose. My father used a bizarre blood platelet cocktail to raise the dead, then pinned the murders of the research team on his son. Who knows what tactics he'll use to avoid going to prison?

Chloe Sullivan:
Yeah, but the FBI guaranteed our safety. I mean, they're putting me and my father in protective custody until after the trial.

Lex Luthor:
Then what?

Chloe Sullivan:
Lex, are you trying to scare me?

Lex Luthor:
I'm worried about you, Chloe. I want you to have all the facts before you walk into that courtroom.

Chloe Sullivan:
Your father's intimidated me long enough. I'm not backing down.

Dustin:
Oh, man. You'd think someone that big would have a thicker skin.

Chloe Sullivan:
[ball hits Dustin's head] You'd think someone that stupid would have a thicker head.

Chloe Sullivan:
Getting your morning Lana fix?

Clark Kent:
Chloe, don't you ever knock?

Chloe Sullivan:

Clark Kent:
Is there a reason you're here so early or do just enjoy busting my chops?

Chloe Sullivan:
Little of both.

Lex Luthor:
I don't care about the past, I believe in the power to reinvent yourself.

Chloe Sullivan:
Very impressive use of pull: "Can I use your bathroom?"

Clark Kent:
I can't believe we're creeping around looking for road kill.

Clark Kent:
[doesn't see Lana] Dad, I got the posts in the west field. I hit some granite, but I jammed it through. [sees Lana, pauses]

Lana Lang:
Very impressive.

Clark Kent:
Well, I had a sledgehammer.

Chloe Sullivan:
This is Smallville, Clark. Land of the weird, home of the strange.

Dustin:
[when he's about to hook up with Jodi] You don't think I ever meant that stuff I said about you when you were - ?

Jodi Melville:
Fat?

[laughs]

Jodi Melville:
You thought it was funny... calling me names, making me cry... making me wish I were dead rather than fat.

Dustin:
Well, what can I say?

Jodi Melville:
You can say you're sorry.

[she opens her mouth to attack him]

Chloe Sullivan:
The door is locked. Uh, I'm gonna find a maintenance worker. [Clark waits until Chloe doesn't watch him, then he easily pushes the handle out of the door with his finger, so that the door opens]

Clark Kent:
Chloe, it's open.

Chloe Sullivan:
How did you do that?

Clark Kent:
Kent charm.

Chloe Sullivan:
Lois and Clark?

Jimmy Olsen:
You got to admit, they got chemistry.

Chloe Sullivan:
Yeah, so do nitroglycerin and peroxide, and I don't suggest putting them together.

Lois Lane:
Please tell me we weren't just set up.

Clark Kent:
Looks like it.

Lois Lane:
Us. That's like hot fudge and halibut.

Clark Kent:
I take it I'm the halibut.

Lois Lane:
Naturally.

Lois Lane:
Clark! So what if your signature move is driving a tractor? I think it's adorable.

Clark Kent:
You know, Lois, I think that it's time for you to meet the real Clark Kent.

Lois Lane:

Clark Kent:

Lois Lane:
Well, I guess it's best that neither of us remembers. I mean, I can't even really picture the two of us... You don't think that we...

[reaches inside his coat and pulls out a rattle, he tosses it to Lex]

Clark Kent:
To baby Luthor. The real reason Lana's marrying you!

Something tells me Lois and Clark's destinies are a little more entwined than they realize.

Chloe Sullivan:
I did some digging into our favorite Martian Manhunter, but it's just coming up empty.

Clark Kent:
Yeah, but we have another man-hunter to worry about. Lois.

Chloe Sullivan:
Why does that make me picture her wielding an ax at every man in Metropolis?

Clark Kent:
She's only after one man. Lois is... into me.

Chloe Sullivan:

[Clark shows her the mixed CD Lois made him]

Lois Lane:

We think it's some sort of a prank, Sheriff.

Sheriff Nancy Adams:
[to Clark] You know, usually these situations originate a little closer to home than you'd expect.

Clark Kent:
Lana didn't have anything to do with this.

Sheriff Nancy Adams:
You know, unless Ms. Lang has grown several inches and developed an affinity for plaid, this would be a good time for you to pipe down.

Clark Kent:
Hey, Chloe, can I...?

Chloe Sullivan:
Yeah, sure.

[leaves the computer over to Clark]

Clark Kent:
I think I heard something.

[adjusts the recording sounds]

Adam Knight:
[off screen, on tape] You lied to me!

Lana Lang:
That's Adam. But I haven't spoken to him since he left.

Chloe Sullivan:
Clark, how did you hear that?

Clark Kent:
Guess I missed too many Linkin Park concerts.

Lois Lane:
You know how Clark and I have this side job hosting "Good Morning Metropolis"?

Oliver Queen:
Uh... Clark Kent's hosting morning television? I can't wait to watch him show me how to bake a cake.

Lois Lane:
Well, our first report does have some heat, but it's not about baking. They've set us both up for blind dates.

Oliver Queen:
[chuckles] Clark's on a blind date? Talk about footage of a train wreck.

Stuart Campbell:
Look, I can handle any hacker, okay, but I think you should know someone's trying to get through to us right now, and I think they're pretty good, so...

Tess Mercer:

So what's your first story?

Clark Kent:
Online dating. They want us to tape ourselves on dates set up through the internet, then coffee-talk about them on the show.

Chloe Sullivan:
Wow. Tackling morning television to get back into Lois' good graces. You know, this has got to be one of your bravest moves yet.

Lois Lane:
Besides, my delicate feminine sensibilities weren't offended the first time I got a glimpse of, uhm, Clark Junior.

Lois Lane:
Look, I didn't come here fishing for thanks. I think Clark might know something about my cousin Chloe's death.

Martha Kent:
I'm so sorry for your loss.

Lois Lane:
Yeah. Were she and Clark ever an item?

Martha Kent:
Oh, I think for a minute...

Lois Lane:
It's funny, I never thought she'd fall for the farm boy type.

Martha Kent:

Bridgette Crosby:

Martha Kent:
You don't know anything about my son.

Bridgette Crosby:

Amazing. And scary. Because if I can do that, maybe I'm capable of anything.

Martha Kent:

Clark Kent:
No, that's you Mom, because I don't know if I would have the strength to hold on three months not knowing where I was and Dad would pull through.

Martha Kent:
My father used to tell me life asks of you what it thinks you can handle. There were days when I thought it had asked too much. But then, I would think about this family and... all the things we've endured and the good things ahead of us. [she starts to cry]

I hate myself for being weak. I just knew that the moment I came here, it would make it real. I promise I will find out who did this to you. Even if I have to do it alone.

Clark Kent:
You're not alone.

Lois Lane:
A fact you could have shared before you were breathing down my neck.

Clark Kent:
Look, I can't explain my actions over the past few days. But Chloe was my best friend. You're not the only one who misses her.

[as Lois starts to leave, Clark uses his x-ray vision on Chloe's grave and sees the coffin is empty]

Lois? Chloe's still alive.

Lionel Luthor:
You're not Martha Kent.

Lois Lane:
Would you have seen me if they said it was Lois Lane?

Lionel Luthor:
Lois Lane, yes. You're Chloe Sullivan's cousin. What a loss. You bite your nails; bad girl. But getting through the door doesn't mean I'll talk to you. Guard!

Lois Lane:
I don't believe that safe house explosion was an accident.

Lionel Luthor:
Of course you don't. You believe I'm responsible.

Lois Lane:
No. A stunt like that is... thuggish and obvious. It smacks of desperation. All the things you aren't.

Lionel Luthor:
All right, Miss Lane, you have my attention. What's your theory?

Lois Lane:
I don't have one.

Lionel Luthor:
[chuckles] Then why are you here?

Lois Lane:
Because I wanted to look into the face of the son of a b*tch who's responsible for my cousin's death. You may not have blown her up, but you're the reason she's gone.

Lionel Luthor:
Before you begin to anointer for sainthood, let's get some of the facts straight, all right? The simple truth is I made her an offer, she took it, I kept my end of the bargain, she didn't. I've got these two amazing friends who both happen to be girls.

So, should we do the, uh, "I told you so" part, or is my perennial bad judgment implicit?

[Lois reaches for her keys on her desk, Tess kicks her in the arm]

Lois Lane:
I guess asking for severance is out of the question.

Tess Mercer:
I didn't want this.

Lois Lane:
No... You just want to take over the world with some alien nation.

Tess Mercer:
I am trying to *save* the world.

Lois Lane:
What's wrong with Greenpeace?

Jimmy Olsen:
[as he sees Clark's wound on his face heal] Your cut. It's gone.

Clark Kent:
Jimmy.

Jimmy Olsen:
No. No, I'm not buying it. That whole "you're here one second, and then you're not"? You took a bullet, and the next day, you were fine. I mean, i-it's like you're some kind of super... guy.

Clark Kent:
Jimmy... I am the Red-Blue Blur. You were right. About me and about Davis. You were the only person to put it all together. I'm sorry that I lied to you.

Jimmy Olsen:
I knew it. I was so right!

Clark Kent:
Look, Jimmy, I need your help. Do you still have that wedding gift? The one for Chloe you said you never gave to her?

Jimmy Olsen:
Yeah, I couldn't bring myself to get rid of it.

Clark Kent:
All right, well, I need you to give to it her now. And whatever happens to me, you need to make sure that Davis and Chloe are safe.

Jimmy Olsen:
Davis?

Clark Kent:
Jimmy, do you trust me?

Jimmy Olsen:

[watches Clark runoff in super speed]

Jimmy Olsen:
That is so cool.

Jimmy Olsen:
I know about Clark.

Chloe Sullivan:
What? What exactly do you know?

Jimmy Olsen:
*The* what. I saw him. And I saw what he can do, who he is. And now I see all kinds of things. I see what you sacrificed for him. For everyone, really.

Davis Bloome:
[after he impales Jimmy with a metal pipe] So, um, this whole time that you were with me, it was for Clark?

Chloe Sullivan:
Davis, just put that down.

Davis Bloome:
How could you do this? I loved you. You're the only one who ever loved me. Why? Why?

Chloe Sullivan:
I thought I did. Okay? But really, what I wanted to do was save you.

Davis Bloome:
Save me? There is nothing left to save!

Clark Kent:
I always tried to forget I was an alien. Or a creature. I've always tried to pretend I was human. I was raised to believe it was my Kryptonian part that was dangerous, Chloe, but I was wrong. It's my human side. It... it's the side that gets attached, the side that makes decisions based from emotions. That's my enemy. And Davis proved that to me.

Chloe Sullivan:
So, because of some psychopath, you're gonna cut the rest of us out of your life? Clark, human emotions is what made you the hero that you are today.

Clark Kent:
They're what's stopping me from being the hero I could be. It's what the world *needs* now.

Chloe Sullivan:

Oliver Queen:

Okay, dudes, you guys have got, like, some - some serious tension going on here.

Dinah Lance:

Clark Kent:

Oliver Queen:

Clark Kent:

Lois Lane:

Clark Kent:

Lois Lane:

Jimmy Olsen:
Next time, don't leave your hand on the floor under a desk in an office you're not supposed to be in.

Lois Lane:
I'm sorry, did I just get a lecture from Jimmy Olsen?

Chloe Sullivan:
How did you survive the geothermal explosion?

Clark Kent:
It was before Dinah pressed the button. I don't know. I got out before the blast, but not fast enough to save everyone else. Chloe... I've searched everywhere. There's no sign of Lois.

Chloe Sullivan:
[cries softly] I saw someone tacking her photo on a missing-persons report. And I keep thinking that maybe, maybe I haven't...

Clark Kent:
Lost everyone.

Chloe Sullivan:
You were there today, Clark, weren't you? I really needed you. Why didn't you come to me?

Clark Kent:
I'm the reason Jimmy's dead. Oliver was right. I put humanity on a pedestal. It wasn't a Kryptonian beast that killed Jimmy. It was a human.

Chloe Sullivan:
I was standing right here, Clark. I know full well who killed Jimmy.

Clark Kent:
This place, Chloe... just get rid of it. Just walk away and don't look back.

Chloe Sullivan:
You don't get it, Clark. Jimmy is here. He's watching over me. He knew me so well, he knew this place would be perfect. Jimmy wanted to know that no matter where I was in this city, I could look up here and see this beacon... the Watchtower. And look - Dinah, Oliver, and Bart all disappeared. Maybe it's up to us to bring them back home.

Clark Kent:
Home? I don't have a home.

Davis Bloome:
We're actually gonna pull this off, aren't we? Find some place to slow down and build a life together.

Chloe Sullivan:
As long as we can keep the gods from hunting us.

Lois Lane:
Chloe's missing with some beastie boy and you're doing what, exactly?

Clark Kent:

Lois Lane:

Clark Kent:
